Hi,
The tricky part of your question is the "...but better" part.
If "better" means "free" then OpenOffice and NeoOffice are definitely "better" because they are free. They have most of the commonly used PowerPoint features, but are not quite as robust feature-wise.
If "better" means it's easier to make stunning presentations then Apple's Keynote is the best choice IMHO (Mac only).
But if "better" means having the widest range of capabilities along with being programmable by Visual Basic then PowerPoint can't be beat.
