Its a 1986 Nissan 720 2.4 Liter FI 2WD 4 Cylinder. I have changed oil, oil filter, spark plugs and wires and ignition coil. I'm going to change distriubtor cap and rotor, air filter, fuel filter. Is there anything else that you would recommend changing to help this truck get up to its top potential? Oh and I'm going to get the timing set on it also as soon as my buddy can come out and do it. Any help would be much appreaciated!

depending on the last time it was done you should get a new fan belt.
Clean off the block (top and bottom as best you can)
clean or replace all the fuses
run a can of BG44K through the fuel tank (it's the only one worth buying, the guy at the parts store will know what you are talking about.)
Change the antifreze/brake fluids if they are dark or rusty
Pack the wheel bearings (if they are not fixed)

all of these things are good, but they will add up quick and are not necessarily necessary.

Change fuel filters (both) One in line and one at tank/pump
Clean fuel screen in carb.
Make sure auto choke is open with warm motor
Have coils checked (both)
Plugs get proper ones (most plug brands call for different heat ranges on ex and in side, Bosch uses same)

Power loss on a "Z" motor (yours is a Z24) is usually due to bad cap and rotor, or one bad coil.

On my 84 I change oil every 5000 miles. (not the recommended 7500) and tune up when mileage drops.
It now has 269K and gets 24mpg.
