With almost a million people living in Essex County, there should be no shortage of nursing positions in the local area. Contact your area hospitals, they will generally put you in a new graduate preceptorship program and train you to work in their facility.

Don't be afraid, there are hundreds of new grads out there every year, and there are never enough nurses. Be sure to interview at several facilities before you accept a position. The impulse is to grab the first offer because you are happy someone has offered a job, and you don't want to lose the open position. In my area, there are also just over a million people in the county and we have over 50 RN positions available on any given day. There are a lot of positions out there.

Pennsylvania offers great opportunities for nursing because of the aging population and increasing workforce that is retiring. I have a friend that was offered a signing bonus, and then they paid for her to go to more schooling. Going to the hospital websites is a good idea, as well as utilizing the bigger job search engines like monster and career builder. Do not be afraid to look for a “headhunter.’ They want to place you in a job because they get paid for doing so. It is like having your own personal assistant trying to find you a job. Nursing opportunities are out there; just don’t hurry into anything.

A good option is to go on the website of a local hospital (or one near you that you like) and check out their employment section.

Have you applied to nearby hospitals? Nurses, even those starting out, are in demand these days.

Good luck.
