In the Bible, God uses male pronouns when describing himself. Jesus, and the various prophets also refer to God with male pronouns, such as "Father" and "Son".
It is entirely possible that there is no true gender involved here with spiritual beings.
These words may have been chosen because in the times of the Bible, the world was under a Patriarchal society, where orders were taken from the eldest male of each family, or the family "Father". In these times, that elder male was revered, and wealth and power were passed down through the males.
Later on in Hebrew society, wealth and power were still passed through the males, but the quality of being Hebrew (or "Jewish") was passed down through the females.

God is fictional, but according to the bible man was created in god's image and eve was created from Adam's rib so I would assume that the fictional character God is male.
