Just take your Military license to your local DMV. They took mine at face value and gave me a Class A CDL. They only thing they would not give me is a HAZMAT endorsement.
I actually had to take their test for that. It was much easier that the Federal test I had to take every year.
I live in FL. Some states may be different, and depends on how familiar the examiner is with Military standards.

Take your DD348 and a printout from your PLL clerk to your company commander. He can write a waiver request, sign it,and you can take it to the local DMV.Then you will recieve a permit(all of your endorsements will be added as long as the CO. lists them on the waiver). You will have to pass a driving test still. But do one thing if you go that route and drive a truck, what ever company you go with, let them put you with a trainer for 30 days or what ever their time period is.The world of the proffesional truck driver is TOTALY different from the military trucking world, been on both sides. If your at Ft.Hood,go down to the DMV in Killeen and talk to those ladies there, they are all really nice and will help you as far as just how the waiver request needs to be worded.I did it just a year ago.

You can use some of the endorsements to take the civilan driving test and written test.

On some, you will have to have went thru the civilan school.

But they will not issue a drivers license and endorsement, just from you Military records, you will have to take the driving test and written test.

But alot of it, will count toward civilan schooling necessary, before you are allowed to take the driving and written test.

You can take your transcripts and stuff to a commercial trucking school and they may give you some credits etc. but you will still have to officially get something from the state of Texas I believe.

Most states do not recognize military training for CDL's. A friend of mine just got his through Florida with his military training. I'm not sure what class or any details of how.

I probably take to one of the trucking driving school and ask them. They then could give you certification or tell you how much you have to do to get certified
