So you can show each parent they are important. It would be rude to celebrate them as if they were one person. They both deserve there own day.

These 2 holidays are seperated because mothers need a day that is just for them and no one else because they do so much, and the same for the fathers.

They were thought up at different times. I think Mother's day was first, then they added Father's day later. And then Grandparents Day was added in the 1980s.

Because Mothers and Fathers are also separate individuals, and they are entitled to have their own unique day. I think it is great to celebrate Mothers on their day and Fathers on that day.

I think they are separate so that you can focus on that one special person for the entire day. If it were done together, it would not be as much fun. The opposite parent normally assists the children with gifts and breakfast in bed for the honoree parent.

Because they are seperate individuals, the whole reason of having a day is to celebrate that person, not the unit.

First of all, I think they deserve their own day. They both like different things and I am happy to have them spread out a bit, so I am not buying both presents at once.
Also, if you look at it from retailers points of view, they are going to make more money having two holidays rather than one.
