At this point, the jury seems to be hung.
Look at it from a soldier's point of view. Keep in mind that he's doing what he thinks is right. And he's putting his life in danger to do it.
"I think your mission was ill conceived, immoral and based on lies. I think your Commander in Chief is a criminal, a liar, an incompetent, and insane. I believe soldiers are murderers, rapists and torturer of innocent women and children. I don't care what you think, you are there to secure oil for the US, to line the pockets of the Vice President, an to seek retribution for Hussein's threats against a former President. I want you out of there before you do any more damage. But I support the troops."
If you were a soldier and heard that, what would you think? I'd think, "Hmmm... Ok, I'm lead by moronic and insane leaders who orchestrated what you call criminal and immoral action in which I'm a willing part. I'm committing atrocities. And you support me?" Heck, if I thought I was doing that, even I couldn't support me.
"I think war is terrible... any war. But I'm realistic enough to understand that sometimes war is a necessary evil. I understand what you have to do. I wish you didn't have to do it. I know you're doing the best job you can. I hope you're allowed to finish it. Take care."
Now, that's what I call support... and it didn't have to include, "But I support the troops."
Sure, you can say you're against the war and that you support the troops. You can see just about anything you like. Some people contend the Earth is flat. But it doesn't make it so.

Of course you can, alot of the troops don't even think we should be there.
Just because you don't agree with our reasons for being there, doesn't mean you can't represent our nation to the best of your ability. There are some good people over there doing a great job, they don't just ride around shooting up the countryside. They try to help fix problems wherever they can, missions allowing. We spent more time checking on well digging projects than we did raiding badguys. We always liked to get out and meet the Iraqi's, most were very friendly, farmers and shop keepers.
Supporting G. Bush is politics, supporting the troops is just being neighborly.

I find alot of the east coast elite support the troupes and are against the war. Cabaret was really popular for instance (I personally liked the revival with Terri Hatcher better than old school with Liza M.) As for the TROOPS, I assure you that you can like the soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen and still think that the war (and I am talking about OIF vs. OEF) is a terrible drain on the country...destroying our civility, credibility, and everything we stand for. You can even be a soldier and feel that the current situation is hopeless. No "liberal" or democratic politician gave me that idea. Two trips to the sandbox (with another coming soon) showed me that firsthand. It's a good thing we aren't having to do anymore than pay the interest on the money we are borrowing to fight it. Those tax cuts are really important.

Before you take that position, talk to someone who has been there and find out how the troops feel about the war in Iraq, and why they feel that way. Then ask them if you can support them without supporting victory in Iraq.

Abosolutley, yes. Nobody on active duty likes war, except maybe a few crazies.
Anybody who says different has no business being a U.S. citizen. What the hell have they done for their country except suck it dry financially, and spritually.
What people tend to forget is that we in the military are executing the orders of our "civilian leaders" that they elected!!!!!!
Don't blame the military for a crappy war in Iraq, our Commander in Chief was elected by you. The retards on the Armed Forces Policy Council are all elected officials.
Don't hate the soldier, airman, sailor or marine hate the war!!!

Republicans are saying No
BUT
Do the Bushbots realize that the GOP congress under Clinton?
voted to cut off funding for the troops fighting in Kosovo in order to end the war? Yet when they did it, it was not anti-American? But somehow as the Dems are getting ready to do the very same thing if Bush vetos the current bill, it IS anti-American? How very hypocritical of you mindless bushbots. It looks like the only ones that are anti-American are those of you that support putting our troops through the meat grinder in Iraq though you supported cutting the funds off to end that last war.

Yes, I support the troops. They are children, mothers, fathers and sisters and brothers of all of us. They are in harm's way, for whatever reason. I wish them safe reutrn and full, happy lives. I worry about them and their families and my heart goes out to them all day long.
However, I am adamantly opposed to this police effort in Iraq. It is not a legally declared war, and we are spending billions to rebuild a country that does not want us there. They have hated each other for centuries and will continue to murder each other, whether we are there or not.
We had no business going over there, and had to be lied to by our government to get us involved.
Bush is a criminal. And I am ashamed that he represents me in the world.

For the first three years I supported the troops because they were there against their will. But by now all have reenlisted so it is their choice. I do not support this war for Big Oil that has pissed away our treasury for the next two generations.

Yes , of course you can , your an American Citizen , after all that's' what they are fighting for , aren't they ?
The troops had no say about where and who they were to go and fight . They have to do as the President asks , no matter how wrong he is .
Why do you think there will never be a draft again , that way , when the President wants war there is no decent and we can all be hoodwinked again so he can send the troops at his pleasure .
