I don't know why any Christian would have a problem with you celebrating Christmas or saying Happy Holidays. There are tons of holidays this time of year.
To the person who says we should not let Christian celebrate Saturnalia, Christians don't, Saturnalia is Dec. 17. If you are going to attribute Jesus to a pagan god at least attribute him to the right one (and no I am not telling you the name of the one, do your own homework. But I have yet to see anyone name him correctly on Yahoo Answers)

Saturnalia was from December 17th to December 23rd. Pretty close I'd say. A theory has been advanced that the establishment of the feast of Sol Invictus on December 25 was an attempt by Aurelian to co-opt the day already celebrated by Christians for a pagan festival. Either way, the date has nothing to do with Jesus.
This one is really a stretch....However, others claim that early Christians independently came up with the date of December 25 based on a Jewish tradition of the "integral age" of the Jewish prophets (the idea that the prophets of Israel died on the same dates as their birth or conception), and a miscalculation of the date of Jesus' death.

Because the few christians that get upset with the atheists that celebrate christmas, doesn't like to admit the fact that christmas was based on pagan holidays.

Christmas is derived from Pagan traditions. however i don't advise arguing this factor with your 13 year previous brother... yet there is not something incorrect with an Atheist celebrating Christmas. As you pronounced, it rather is a commercialized holiday it rather is greater approximately spending time with your loved ones than it rather is celebrating Jesus. All one has to do is circulate procuring at Christmas time and attempt to %. up something that somebody else is attaining for. you discover out actual speedy merely how Christian the holiday is.

Those who co-opt things that belong to another are always more diligent in protecting them. Since most Christians are ignorant of the fact that Christmas was already a holiday season prior to their co-option, I'd say it's a manifestation of that ignorance. If you found out your home was not really your home anymore, would you leave it, or would you try and protect it? I think that's what happens. They can't imagine that there was anything before Christmas. I know, because I grew up that way. Didn't really find out any different until I was probably in my 20's.

but what lizard holidays am i missing? at sea, we have crossing the international date line, crossing the equator and other things
any reason at all to celebrate,
and rightly, when coming to shore, we try to anchor in a right spot, but you know, we have been known to stop at the first bar
and then we spend a few days getting off that bar
i hope that you have a wonderful christmas no matter what you use.

Why say anything at all? The reason most people get uptight about it is because we're tired of living in an overly politically correct world where every little word has to be rewritten because it offends this person or that person.

Haven't you figured it out yet?
The Xians that are making all the fuss are the loudmouthed evangelicals that believe the US is a Xian nation and should convert all other countries to Xianity.
The reasonable Xians out there realise that it's not only Xmas that's being celebrated here and that their celebration actually has pagan roots.
