I'm currently 23 wks. pregnant, and I have been wearing my regular size jeans the whole time (I'm not doing it on purpose though, just some personal reasons). Well, I am a little concerned because I have to stand for several hours at work, and I feel the fetus move upwards several times, and my belly becomes hard. Then I feel suffocated at times, and with a need to go to the bathroom, because I'm obviously putting pressure on my bladder as well. I have heard that the fetus is very well protected in the uterus, but I still wonder if I'm making my baby uncomfortable, and not just myself. I would appreaciate it if you guys know anything about this, or experienced something similar..?

have you tried the rubber band trick? so you can still wear your regular jeans but arent so tight on your stomache, loop a rubber band through the hole where you button them and then around the button to keep your pants closed. just zip as far as you can and wear longer shirts to cover. i dont know exactly what happens, but i do know that it is not good to wear them so tight on your stomache. if it makes you uncomfortable then that should be a good sign that you need to do something about it.

If they're tight enough to be hurting you, then they're probably restricting circulation to your legs, which can be very harmful.
At this point, it's probably not bothering your baby, but shortly it probably will. If you're in your own jeans still because you're not big enough to need maternity clothes, great! If they get tight, try what everyone else suggested with the rubber bands.
If you need maternity jeans though, and you just don't want to wear them because you think they're ugly, then it's time to suck it up and get one or two pair anyway. Try a brand like Motherhood Maternity, or check out the Maternity section at Kohls. They have many different styles there and I'm sure you'll find something that you like.
I didn't get any maternity clothes until I was 6 or 6 1/2 months along, and I didn't really need to wear them until about 7 months. I just didn't start showing until then so there was no need for it. I had two paird of maternity jeans. One pair looke dlike regular jeans from the front, but the back of the waistband has elastic in it. It still had a zipper and a button, and 5 pockets and everything, but it would 'give'. The second pair had a dark blue elastic band all the way around, and a drawstring you could tuck down inside. It still had pockets, and the back pockets had some really cute stitching on it. If I wore a t-shirt that covered the band, you couldn't tell they wre maternity pants either.

It's probably not harmful but it's got to be uncomfortable for your poor tummy. I did the rubber band trick for a while but trust me by the time your in your third trimester you'll be thankful for the big elastic band in your maternity jeans. Being pregnant is a great excuse to go shopping. They have really cool maternity jeans, slacks and tops now, so treat yourself a little=) Congrats on baby!!!

I don't know if it is harmful, but it sure has to be uncomfortable. Everything is already moving around and making room for baby and tight clothes will just make the uncomfortable feeling worse. If you are unsure, talk to your OB/GYN doctor or their nurse and find out if it could cause harm or other problems.

There are inserts you can actually place in the zipper part of your pants to provide more room. I do not recommend wearing tight clothing to the point of being uncomfortable. I dont know what kind of problems it may cause but it doesnt seem healthy.

It may vary from woman to woman, but I know a girl who didn't want her parents to know she was pregnant, so every night and every morning, she would wrap her stomach as tight as she could in plastic wrap. It was so tight that her stomach hardly got bigger at all, but ya know what? Her baby was perfectly normal. I don't know if it would be like that all the time, but that's all I have to say.
