Non-believers of what? You make it sound like people have a lack of belief in anything. Those who choose not to believe in one thing may believe another.
I understand that you're trying to ask the question as clarification of what they believe, but you must be specific in what you ask.
I suppose as an Agnostic I'd be deemed an "unbeliever." I have my own theories, however, which blend some of the spiritual with some of the scientific, basing it around the idea that energy can be neither created nor destroyed. How do I view death? I view it as an end of a physical form, but what comes next depends upon the individual. If they direct their energy to such a means that they can remain intact, yes, they live on as an energetic spirit. If they don't project themselves as such, their energy would disperse, and any further awareness would be non-existent.
At the same time, I believe humans could have the capacity to become demigods. To this point, it is believed mankind uses only 10% of our brains. If this is the case, the other 90% could hold the key to further capabilities. Does that mean we will become that powerful? Unlikely, though I won't rule it out.
I'm sure at least a few people would consider me a blasphemer and/or deem me insane, but that's the price to pay for not conforming to general concepts. Be aware, however, I consider this a possible explanation, not THE explanation. I keep an open mind and like to think anything is possible.

You would have to be impaired on some level to be an "unbeliever" and then believe yourself a god. Logically, any unbeliever that held that view would have to admit that they, themselves, did not exist...which would be difficult, since they would have to be having a conversation with someone who didn't exist to have a conversation with.
I think that every "unbeliever" that I have ever talked to has been along the line of death is the final act, and that's when the curtain falls...for good. No encores.

Many Atheists consider themselves Gods I tell you. Afterall arrogance is spread all over the place and nothing new.
BTW; Don't make a mistake I'm also an atheist but being objective and insensitive to any topic raised.

Death is it.
Religious people think that they are the main character in some divine plan and the universe was built around them for their own benefit. Yet, they still claim that atheists think of themselves as gods. Ironic, eh?

Death is it as far as anyone knows even believers.
I've heard that crazy "unbelievers making themselves gods" notion many times but it always strikes me as just one more example of people having no idea what someone else believes or doesn't.

Death of the flesh is it, until someone gives me even a remotely reasonable alternative to contemplate.

Death means death. Nothing more.
I'm not a God. I'm not making myself a God. There is no God.
