Dear Yahoo QA member "Serenity",
i didn't say that Vista is bad OS. I am a PC-Technician and I know that TOO MANY people downgrade from Vista to XP, because I have TOO MANY clients that do that. And also, if you read articles about Dell, HP, and other companies, all of them let people downgrade from Vista to XP. It's a crisis. And the same you can find at Microsoft's forums. I just ask people, simple pc users to understand what they think about it.

People, please, just answer my question and never say if it's an accurate one or not. It's a question of reality. I want Vista to grow. But first of all we must understand what the people think, why they downgrade

Oh it's a problem alright. Trouble was Microsoft tried to do copy another well known company (no names mentioned) and they just couldn't do it. I know of 40 people who got rid of Vista (I got rid of the darned computer, made them refund my money) because A) it did what it wanted and B) it totally screwed up three computers I know of. Vista is crap, that's all you can say about it.

I hope that it give those boys in Redmond a big kick in the pants. It should be telling them that instead of catering to the wants of the RIAA and MPAA they should be catering to the wants and needs of the common consumer. I am all for the protection of copyrighted material, however the draconian methods used by these jack-booted thugs is too extreme. There is a thing called Fair Use!!!!!

It would seem that MS Vista is taking the same road as MS Windows Me. Anyone remember that, or how about MS Bob? You would think that these lessons would be in the front of the minds of the Redmond flunkies......... but NNNNNNOOOOOO!

Me, i am learning Linux, and using Win XP and 2KPro until no further support is offered then off to Linux, unless a real consumer friendly version of Windows is offered.

I have unistalled multiple versions of MS Vista for many clients. Drivers are a pain, yes, and some are impossible, but, the clients are happier with disabled feature than a junk O/S.

i'm a linux user (mandriva 2008 linux),
my linux can do everything vista tries to do - without complaining,
my linux is free and safe with all the software i need - also free

why pay for a system that complains,
why give money to a company who spy on you,
why pay for second rate goods that may or may not work,

ok, so you downgrade to xp and lose all the 'goodies'

why not just try linux, its free and a whole lot better than xp/vista, then find out why microsoft is in a crisis

My answer is this; Windows Vista is nice, but it's too expensive, the cheapest is Home basic. If you have a laptop, it is power hungry, memory hungry, and it's too slow. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. The Aero interface is nice, but that's what consumes your battery. It's too venerable to viruses, and you'll be seeing blue screens alot. Vista's performance is terrible. Just to move a file that's not even 1 MB in size, it takes a while. Once, I was moving a file that was 645MB in size, on the time remaining column, it said:
Time Remaining: 49,634 Days 10 hours and 26 minutes remaining. I said to my friend, WTF!!?? Then it crashed. People, don't buy Windows Vista!!! Shoot. You can't upgrade to Vista if your computer is more than 18 months old. Even if it says Windows Vista Compatible, or something similar to that. Take my word from someone that has a Windows Vista laptop, and someone who tried to upgrade their computer. Man! $159 dollars down the drain. ($159.36 actually.)

no its not Microsoft crisis, people just assume if it new it should be better, and jump into bandwagon of technology.

they don't realize that to wite OS huge like Windows XP/NT/2000 takes few millions lines of code. and it's never been flawless.

Microsoft VISTA is not MATURE enough, it will take some time before Microsoft will release SP2 with fixed bugs

Edit: Serenity: even Vista is new OS, you have to remember the fact that whatever Microsoft does it never GOES w/out BUGS, None, 0, zepo. Microsoft NEVEr EVEr admits because it matter of almighty $$$$$$$$

I was expecting Vista itself to be the microsoft crisis. It seems to have gotten farther, but they are still loosing ground to Mac and Linux.

Personally, I awaited it in pleasure. Watching as time went by, I've seen them go from pretending not to care about the competition, to dreading the competition publicly. After cursing Linux, they now have software for it.

If it wasn't for the xBlock I would expect them to just die, but that may just save them. Also, like I said, they have cross platform software now. I figured they would be the last to recognize other systems, and now they do.

Though Vista could be the end of microsoft operating systems, I see it as the beginning of something great in computers.

No. Just too many people unwilling to do a little research.
If Vista is set to "classic view," it will resemble XP which helps getting used to it.
Also, there are a number of helpful websites. Here are a few:

Why do you say, "Too many people"? How many are too many, and how do you know how many are actually downgrading from Vista to XP?

OK, some people are stuck in the ice age and don't want to learn the new features of Vista. They are use to XP after using it for the past seven years, and now are simply not giving Vista a real chance.

Vista is a fine operating system, it just has some new GUI, security features, and other new technology. It took Microsoft a bit too long to get it out and so some people don't want to learn a new operating system.

Even XP went through the early stages of growing when it first came out, but nobody went back to Windows Me, or 2000 because it hadn't been that long between the release of those OSs and XP.

Just as many people moaned over the newness and security issues of XP as who are moaning over Vista now. They complain of how Microsoft has to release these service packs, forgetting that the same thing occurred with XP. XP is in its second large service pack, and it went from none, to one, and then to two.

I wouldn't be too concerned with those who just don't want to give a new OS a chance and wish to stay stuck with an older OS. Microsoft is not having a crisis, so don't worry about that.

I happen to enjoy the new Vista OS very much. Sure, there are a few wrinkles which need ironing out, but Microsoft is working on those things same as they did with every other OS put out.

Go by how YOU think of the OS, not by other peoples opinion or experiance. The only thing which matters is what you want and what you are comfortable with. If you don't like Vista, fine, don't use Vista. But to state that "too many people" are downgrading is simply not accurate. For more people keep Vista than those who choose to downgrade. Think of the hundreds of thousands of new computers sold since Vista came out, and then try to tell me the majority of them are downgrading. It simply is not true.

no. its new..its flawed...nothing new. Give them time to smooth out the kinks and within the next 2 years updated versions and software band-aids will help solve the problem.

Personally...I don't plan to give up XP for at least another year. I'll wait for all the screw ups to be fixed before I spend the money on it.
