"Replace all" in word....?

Question

When we click on the icon which marks the word document with black marks (identifying tabs, spaces, paragraphs etc.) Sometimes there is a sign of an arrow (mostly for tab) which points towards right, down and a little bit left. those signs are not exactly end of paragraphs but are really annoying if already present in the file.
There is a way to replace all by typing something and replacing that specific thing with something else. we could apply "replace all" even for spaces. But how do we do "replace all" for those little annoying arrows...(i have tried it...doesn't work...even for paragraph signs)

Open the "Replace" window
Click on the "More" at the bottom to expand it so that you can see Search Options and Replace setions
Under Repalce you will find a "Special" button
Clicking on that allows you to place special marks like the tab and the return into the search and replace fields.

Usually it will place the symbol as a "^" followed by a letter (such as ^t for a tab). Once you know the code, you can type them in by hand if you prefer.

You most certainly do NOT want to replace those ¶ marks. If you figure out a way to, you'll completely foul up your formatting. All paragraph formatting is attached to those marks, and when you delete one, the formatting of the next or previous paragraph (I've never made sure which) takes over.

You can turn all those nuisance characters off by pressing the ¶ button on your toolbar, but I suggest keeping at least the ¶ marks to show you exactly where each paragraph ends. If you want to keep them and get rid of the → and ·, do this:

1.Click the Tools->Options menu item.
2.Click the View tab.
3.Under Formatting Marks, select ONLY Paragraph Marks and deselect all others.
4.Click OK.

Lauren had it right. There is a button on the Standard toolbar, which is the paragraph symbol. It is usually next to the View size window (100%), This button toggles on and off formatting marks.

When setting your view of the document (100%, 75%, whatever) you must have accidentally clicked the "show/hide" button to the left of the percentage sign. This causes Word to display formatting commands and is helpful when you need it. These are non-printing characters - just formatting.

To turn them off while working, click the show/hide button. It is a toggle - click ON click OFF.

the arrows are showing because of the view that you have Word set to show. Change the view to print layout and the arrows and paragraph symbols should go away.
