I met a man who is very nice; however, he knows that I do not drink and he does. In a 2-hours time span, he had coronas and multiple shots of vodka. I don't want to get a relationship started if he is a problem drinker. I already know the devastation of problematic drinking and its' PRIORITY in one's life. For those of you who do drink, is this casual drinking???

Then stay away from this one, even if he doesn't have a problem by definition he is working on it. Hook up with someone who holds the same ideals and interests you have. Please don't "lower" you standards to a level that will leave you vulnerable.

It's alright to be disappointed at a lost opportunity. But remember, there are a lot of healthier fish in the ocean, go catch a big one!

It was probably at a party right? And were all of his friends taking shots with him? 4 shots is a bit much...but with friends (once in a great while) i wouldn't consider it too bad. Just imagine if he wasn't with friends he would have only drank 2 beers in 2 hours, which isn't bad at all.

On the other hand if he drank all that alone....then yeah there is a problem.

To be completely honest...go with your gut, if you think 2 beers and 4 shots is alot and border line alcoholic, then don't do it....break it off. And if in the past you have had problems with drinkers....be with a lite drinker or a non-drinker, cuz everytime you see someone drink a little more than what you think is normal you are automatically gonna think they have a problem.

Good Luck ;)

It's a little early to be judging. You might want to go out another time or 2 with him and be the DD, just dont tell him that, offer to drive. In a 2 hr time span, i would say it depends on the person, their metabolism, the situation etc. I do drink and I would say that's not really terrible as it was spread out over 2hrs, but did he EAT? If it had been one after the other, then yes, I'd say he was being excessive. But you can't really label that problem drinking until you know more about the man first. At the same time, I can see how someone doing that on the first date would have you wondering.

That's a good bit more than I could drink in 2 hours, but whether it's a problem or not depends on more than just that one time. If he drinks that much every 2 hours all night long, that's a problem. If he drinks that much every day all week, that's probably a problem. If he gets cranky if he doesn't get his Corona and vodka, problem.

If it was your first date he may have just been nervous and trying to calm himself down, or he may have been trying to impress you (since many guys seem to erroneously think that alcohol tolerance = manliness).

I would get to know him a bit better and see what his regular drinking habits are before writing him off as a problem drinker.

While this is a bit much, it does not mean he has a problem drinking. He could have just got carried away once with you. But what I do find troubling is he went out ith a non-drinker and drank in front of her. I drink but would not drink when I am out with a non-drinker as I want to be on her level.

To see if there is a problem, you should go out more then one time with him. if he continues at the same rate, I would say yes, that is a lot and leave him. Good luck.

Anyone who drinks like that is trying to get drunk. No one does shots simply because they love the taste of the booze. Sipping an after-dinner cordial is one thing...slamming vodka shots is something else entirely.

It really depends on why he was drinking like that. Were the two of you were out to dinner and he was drinking like that, or were you at a frat party and he was drinking with a bunch of his guy friends like that? I'm asking because my husband doesn't drink except for the occasional glass of wine or beer. A few weeks ago we went to an Irish pub and ran into a few firefighters and EMT's from our town that my husband works with. They were drinking and buying shots for one another, and my husband had quite a bit to drink, which was very unusual for him. I wasn't concerned because he doesn't drink like that ever. (I was a little annoyed because I ended up sitting at a bar a little longer than I would have liked, and had to drive his sorry butt home!) He was kind of "caught up" in the evening with his buddies, so I cut him a little slack. In 11 years of marriage, I can count on my right hand the number of times I've had to take care of him drunk, so it was a non-event.

Now, if it had been just me and my husband and he was doing shots, or if he started getting drunk every weekend, I'd be worried. If this was an isolated incident, give the guy another chance. Talk to him about it....tell him that you think he's a great guy and enjoy his company much more when he's not drinking. If he gets offended by this, or if you find he drinks like this all the time, then there are other nice guys out there who would be worthy of your time and attention.

That's actually not a lot. It depends if you're out or not. I'm a female, short and average weight and I can drink that easily if I'm out partying and NO, I don't have a problem. There are MANY factors that have to come into play before you can write someone off as having a drinking problem. One thing to keep in mind is some people are NOT light weights. I'm not a light weight. So, if you're a light weight and you'd get buzzed off of that, then you might consider it problematic, whereas, if you're not a lightweight, that wouldn't be a lot...again, you need to ask many other questions. How OFTEN does he drink is more key. Hope this helps.

You think it is a problem now. Here in Canada they are starting to have drivers' road-side sobriety checks during morning rush hour, because studies show heavy drinkers are still over the limit when they go to work the next day!!!

I had my last drink years ago. Like my dad, I've given up demon rum!

Have you seen those web sites of hundreds of candid photos of wasted drinkers, bleery eyed drunken smiles, barely conscious, falling down, puking into toilets and showing off their panties? Someday your children will find you on line! Not a pretty sight!

Where I am from, a lot of people drink like this, some even more. I think when someone has 6 drinks in a 2 hour span, there is definately a problem. Make no mistake, this is NOT casul drinking. He may be able to go to work everyday, but how well does he perform? Stay clear of this one....save yourself a lot of heartache.

that's too little information to judge whether he has a problem or not. if after that he drinks half a bottle of whiskey and if he does it every day, then you can say he has a problem.

But if he drinks 2 beers and a few shots every once in a while, it's ridiculous to even think that it's a problem... it just makes me laugh how cautious people are, way too much...

And people who say that this man has a problem are people who never drink, so that doesn't count, cause their opinion is not objective. To somebody who doesn't drink two beers and four shots seem A LOT, which, trust me, is really not the case.

Jee... leave the man alone, I think he's pretty much normal. :)

P.S. OMG, people, have you lost your mind?!?!?! He's ruinigh his life?!?!?! Get a grip!
