I was talking to my teacher about recipes and food and she suggested pork. I said I do not eat pork, or ham, because it is in the Bible not to. She looked at me strangely and now I know why.. i've read on this site that it is a sin for Jews to eat pork? not Christians? i feel like a hypocrite.

PORK WAS A SIN IN THE BIBLE ONLY BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A WAY TO KEEP THE PORK FROM SPOILING. SO MANY PEOPLE DIED FROM FOOD POISING FORM PORK.ALSO THAT PIG IS SUPPOSED TO BE UNCLEAN. THAT PIG WAS A BOTTOM FEEDER. MEANING THAT THEY ARE THEIR OWN STOOL. THAT WAS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THAT PORK WAS A SIN.

Yes, Jews don't eat pork, but where did they get that information from? The Bible. The Bible has rules about what to eat (although it changes everywhere...I mean in Eden, you wouldn't eat meat at all!). Find the passage of the bible in the Old Testament.

If you're a Seventh Day Adventist, they also don't eat pork products (taking into consideration that Bible passage). They're also Christian too.

Plenty of Christians I know take the "Thou Shalt Not Kill" in its words, and do not eat meat.

There's nothing hypocritical about not eating meat.

It's fine for christians to eat pork. The Old Testament forbid it.. which was later made ok in the New Testament. I think the reason the Jews don't eat it is they don't recognize the New Testament.

God forbade Israel to eat pork due to the unhealthiness of it and due to the uncleanness of it to preserve a people for Him. Jesus told Peter that everything is clean to eat because the Gospel was for the gentiles also. Gentiles ate pork and the Jews were forcing rules on them. It is not a sin to eat pork but, it is a sin if your brother thinks it is a sin and you eat it and cause him to fall. I personally stay away from pork because it is unhealthy.

Jesus did away with the Old testament law, in Hebrews, I'm not sure where it says that the old law was done away with and the new law came to pass thus nullifying the Old Law. He also said everything is good and to be received with thanksgiving. Also when God spoke to Peter, although I do not believe it was pork, he said Peter, kill and eat and Peter said no. God said do not say no to what I have made sanctified. Sorry if I cannot give you exact places. I think it is fine but that's one persons opinion.

I don't care what any religion says.

At this point in time pork is nutritious, tasty, and perfectly safe.

This prohibition probably came from a time when pork contained some type of disease that caused human sickness or before people knew that pork must be cooked thoroughly. Times change, modern prohibition of pork is pure superstition.

Jesus Christ came into this world and died to free us from the constraints of the Jewish law.

1 Corinthians 10: 23-31

"I have the right to do anything, " you say -- but not everything is beneficial. " I have the right to do anything" - but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others. Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, for, "the earth is the Lord's, and everything in it." If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. But if someone says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then do no eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience. I am referring to the other person's conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by anothers conscience? If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for? So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

I am a Christian and I've been eating pork all of my life. As a Cajun, I don't intend to stop eating pork. It's part of my heritage. 2D

Yes. The Lord shall smite all those who partake of tasty pig just as he smote the sodomites. Glory!

At least that's what I was taught as a child. Now that I'm an atheist, I still like to pretend.

...we are shown in the New Testament that it is ok to eat all manner of beasts, but we are called, as Christians, to watch what we eat. Paul tells us in Romans 14:

20...All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
