I'd like to create some kind of link to put on my facebook/myspace and other webpages so that people who want to can donate odd money to my charity. We already have a website but I want to appeal to more people than this reaches and I know on some peoples pages they have a way that people can click and donate small money through sponsoring and sending money via paypal or whatever online. Any ideas how I can do this?

I just did this a few days ago through PayPal! Go to https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donate-intro-outside for information directly from PayPal.
Once you have a free PayPal account, you can create and customize buttons that you can add to your website. PayPal provides you with an HTML code that you paste into the website code, and then voila! People can click and easily donate with credit cards. Alternatively, PayPal also provides you with a direct link to your donation payment page, so you can e-mail it to friends or post it as a link on Facebook.
The big advantage to using PayPal is that so many people have it (and trust it), so your donations won't look like they're going to a sketchy website or something. The downside is that PayPal takes a 2.9 percent plus $0.30 commission on each payment.

People don't donate online because of donation buttons on web sites, no matter how cute the donate button and no matter how convenient the donation method is. They donate online for the same reason they donate at all -- because they believe deeply in an organization and the work it does, and want to support it, even be a part of it.
You can set up an account on PayPal, through your bank, or through Networking for Good (if you are a registered nonprofit organization ) for people to donate online for your organization. Check those web sites for more information (and contact your bank) regarding how that works. If you need coding to be done on your web site or on your OSN accounts to link to the online administrative processes for donations, you should be able to find a volunteer easily to do this (if you are in the USA, try www.volunteermatch.org).
But where you really need to spend time is on a page on your web site that makes it clear why donating to your organization is a good thing (don't emphasize the need, the desperation, etc. -- emphasize the opportunity to do good, to make a difference, etc.), and making sure all of your web pages and OSN proviles link to this page. That's where your online donations will come from.

Only if you are an authorized agent of the charity, and you provide full disclosure of the fees being charged. In other words, you can do it, but you have to properly register as an agent of the charity and maintain detailed records.
