First, I should let you know that I used to be a hardcore atheist and evolutionist for 20 years before I became a Christian. Christ has changed my life like you wouldn't believe. I used to be pro-choice, evolutionist, atheist, feminist, liberal, you name it. I used to go online and tell Christians and creationists how stupid they were for believing what they did.
I had this boyfriend for a few years who was a cradle Catholic. I "tolerated" his faith in God for a while until I got to know his family. A year or so later I attended the baptism of his niece, purely out of politeness, but I was still an atheist. While I was sitting in the pew, before the service started, I noticed all these people around me kneeling and praying. They were obviously praying for personal reasons and not because they were instructed to. I decided to take a chance, and I said a little prayer, "OK, God, if you're really there, how come all these people seem to have something that I don't? They all seem to have the Holy Spirit and I don't. Please tell me how to get the Holy Spirit." So I sat back on the pew, and I had a sense of relief. When the priest began his homily, it was about "how to get the Holy Spirit"! I was so blown away! Even as an atheist, I didn't believe in those kinds of coincidences. I knew that God was trying to communicate with me in a way I could understand. I suddenly felt so ashamed for treating Him the way I had for so many years. I got on my knees and prayed and asked Him to come into my heart and forgive my sins, and He did from that moment. My life changed forever. My old beliefs, my old sins were out the door. I became literally a new person. I started taking God more seriously, and started attending church regularly. I became a pro-life activist. I had gone onto some pro-life websites that showed pictures of aborted babies, even 1st trimester abortions, and I came to a realization: how could anyone do such a horrible thing to their own baby? I was then ashamed of having supported that butchery all those years. I then became pro-life.
Eventually, I broke up with that boyfriend when I moved to Idaho; I started searching for a new church. I left the Catholic Church and joined a Seventh-Day Adventist church. I still had one problem, though - I was still an evolutionist. I just thought, there seems to be so much evidence to support it, how can it not be true? So one day I asked my pastor about it, an he handed me a CD-Rom that contained a Creation Science seminar series, about 15 hours worth, so I sat down at the computer and watched it. I was so blown away by the information, and I wondered why this stuff wasn't being taught in schools? I became angry that my schools had brainwashed me to believe in evolution all the years I was growing up. I was so intrigued by the video, I watched it over and over again to get the details. I then dropped evolution like the proverbial "hot potato", and I have been a creationist ever since. Another good book to read is "The Evolution Cruncher" by Vance Ferrell, which provides thousands of scientific facts that deny evolution, support a young Earth, a global flood and intelligent design. It makes a whole lot more sense than evolution ever could. There are so many things that evolution cannot explain that creation can. I am even interested in teaching a class in Creation Science at a local community college. God has given me a beautiful daughter and I see proof of God's love for me in her every day. I look around and I see evidence of His handiwork in Creation all around me. I read the eyewitness accounts in the Bible of how Christ raised people from the dead, healed people with a word or a touch 2,000 years ago, and was followed around by thousands of people at the time, which is what you would expect if someone was actually doing those things. I believe that Christ is who He says He was, and I believe His promise that He's coming back. He has no reason to lie, and wouldn't even if He did. Because He paid the price for my sins, I can now look forward to life in Heaven, instead of eternal extinction.

Because I needed him when I was down and I thought and thought and used my brain real hard and then one day I just knew that he was there! He helped me and I read the bible and the world is so big it couldn't be there without a god because my mind is too small to wrap it around the complexities of a world that contains unknown factors. Ok enough of the joke. They never have a good answer and when they do have something that is semi-articulate it's quoted directly from the bible. Why are humans so nieve think that there has to be an excuse or a reason that we must comprehend for every occurence in life. This is such a useless arguement that really is more of a verbal war, the (generally) educated against the (generall) nieve. There will always be believers because many people just can't handle the idea that there is something that they can't understand, or need not understand. Everything must be made more complex than it really is. We have to put a face and a human likeness on every occurance because of course the world revolves around the almighty human, it must have been made for us by an all powerful likeness of us. There is no god, life is nothing more than a series of chemical reactions triggered by chance.

Sunshine is correct anyone can claim to be Christian , but the term actually means modelling your life after Christ,if you do this you will understand not just the simple things but also the deep things about God, this in turn will cause you to conform your life to be in harmony with the scriptures and therefore your beliefs will be consistant There are a group of such Christians, they are called Jehovah''s witnesses. We trust in what the bible says and make the necessary changes if our actions are out of harmony. For example I havent always been a Jehovah's witness and I used to celebrate such traditions as christmas and easter after researching the origins of these traditions I realized that doing so was out of harmony with being a Christian, so I stopped When i first started studying the bible i smoked cigarettes and heeps of weed, the more i studied the more i realized i could not do both and still please God so i stopped smoking. Regarding differences in beliefs keep in mind there is only one True God, Jehovah is his name and there is only one truth, God's word is the benchmark on which to measure these apparent differences. The trinity in my studies is not supported by the scriptures, many will disagree but regarding truth we need to make up our own mind based on the available evidence. Drinking alcohol is not a sin in the Bible, even Jesus drank a little however Drunkenness is and there a many scriptures to support this statement. I guess what i'm alluding to is opinions are a lot like belly buttons, we all have them, and the're all a little different. But truth, it doesn't change , the problem is some peoples perception of it does. But if we base it on a reliable source such as Gods word then we are building on an infallible solid foundation, one that is not always shifting.

I just don't see how we could be here by chance. Seriously, what is the probability that life had to occur? And on that note, why intelligent life? It's as if the universe knew we were coming. Sounds like a designer to me. That designer being God. There are 15 or so physical constants that allowed life to form following the big bang. If any one of these were off, then we would not be here. Then evolution created us to where we are today. It sure takes a lot of faith to believe there is not a God. If you can believe that all of this happened by chance, then how can non-believers say it is illogical to believe in God? It takes faith on both sides. I believe God created us through the big bang and evolution.

Everything started somewhere. Everyone aggrees with that. Scientists know that positive energy and negative energy can be measured. Wouldn't it be logical at least to believe that there is a Source of theses energies.
The long answer is read the book "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, it is a conclusion of God from a very logical stand point and from an Athiest just a few years prior to writing the book.

Most people who mention things such as "coming into being by chance" or "From nothing" do not have a full understanding of how such things are explained. Chance is not a factor. As far as we know, there is no such thing as "nothing." Those who herald the Creation story in Genesis as true, turn around and say that science claims that all things came from nothing, and then refute (what science doesn't actually say), that things CANNOT come from nothing. They don't realize that they are refuting their own claim, since if it COULD be demonstrated that something appeared from nothing, that would be excellent evidence for Creationism. Science does not claim that everything came from nothing, by random chance or otherwise.
Others argue from personal incredulity and give reasons for believing in the supernatural simply because they personally cannot understand or have no knowledge of the bodies of evidence that explain what we DO know of the observed world. That which we DO NOT YET know remains, but Science does not feel it helpful to delve into the supernatural as some sort of "black box" explanation.
No one has sufficient reason (for my money) in believing as they do. It is much preferable to know what one can and not invoke irrational belief.

Personally I do not believe in God, but I do know God and have the Fire of the Spirit burning in my heart.
The Joy this brings me is greater than any drug ever invented.
The peace of mind I have is not possible to describe.
I still have problems, but the Spirit in me is greater than any problem I am busy overcoming.

Well, by answering that question positively (aka the religious litmus test), I secured a good paying job, with benefits and vacation days, in the George Bush, Jr. Texas Methodist White House.
If I had said, no, I am not a Christian, I would not have been hired.
(...just kidding a little...)
