Get a new therapist! This one is crossing the line between therapist and friend.

Don't read anything in to it. If you accept then treat it like just a lunch with your therapist. Perhaps he/she wants to see how you function in a social environment.
On the other hand, therapists are people too. Maybe you are attractive!

It is not ethical to have a personal relationship. Your therapist knows this for a fact.

I wouldn't go to lunch, and I would look for a new therapist.

a one time event, if you are ok with it, can be acceptable. i am a therapist and i DO NOT socialize with my clients. on occasion i see someone in public and i allow them first approach. otherwise i act as if i do not see them, to give them their private lives.

there are very strict laws governing relationship between therapist and client. (and by relationship i am not just assuming or stating sexual/romantic relationship - it includes friendship) most states have a 1 or 2 year moratorium on any kid of social connection with therapist and client to protect the client.

If this is social, it is inappropriate. Tie up with another therapist. You shouldn't go out with your therapist. It blurs the lines of what this person's role is with you.

I go out for coffee with mine as well as one time he took me out to buy me something for a big step I took, and of coarse we also invited a female co-worker of his to come along with us., I see no harm in it, I'm more "real" when I'm not in his office. I feel like he's not analyzing me like he does in the office, I say it's cool just make sure it's not at his house and that you are where others can see, he won't mind if there's nothing to hide from..right??

This would be inapporpitate If they work for a hospital or clinic and their supervisor found out they might lose their position and their license to practice. If they are in private practice I would try and find out if they were sued for malpractice before. This is a reverse form of transference. Some thing that if they find happening they are supposed to refer you to someone else instead of acting on the feelings.

Ask why. Romance with your therapist is not appropriate.
