He has had these pink raised bumps on his ears on and off for about the last year or so. They are warm to the touch and they are almost more inside/underneath the skin rather than being on the surface like a pimple or something. They are sensitive and he will hardly let me touch his ears when the bumps are there. They eventually dry out and flake, sometimes taking some his fur with it.

He is an 18 month old Chihuahua mix. Has anyone had any experience with something like this? What could it be?

Alright, I have taken him a vet about this but he was holistic vet. He said not worry about the problem and I have tried ear mite medicine from the pet store, and one web site I read said to use lemon juice (the acidity must kill them, which has worked in the past but only temporarily).

I was hoping a vet tech or someone with a foundation of knowledge in veterinary care could answer my question...rather than what happens to be people just interested in shaming me. No wonder you like the animals so much sue b, I'm sure most people find you intolerable...

Why would your vet not notice this? At18 mths old the dog should have been at the vet getting shots etc. !! If it wasn't SHAME ON YOU, if it was change vets.

Go get it checked out by your vet. It's the best way to be sure of what it is.

Also, why would you let it go for a year? I would've brought my dog in within the first week.

It may be mites. Normally they will scratch their ears almost bloody or you will notice the back paws be red from blood when it mites very bad.

Have you talked to your vet about this problem. It seems this may be some type of infection.
