The empire state building is 381 metres high. This is more than enough time for a penny to reach terminal velocity. If the the penny were to then hit someone on the head it would more than certainly kill them from the impact. More to the point, why would you have a penny in the USA?

Well the Empire state building has guards & catches to stop people doing that..... besides, what purpose do I have dropping something off the building?

I have heard that if you throw a penny or whatever, quarter, etc, and if it hits someone in the head down below, it could potentially kill them. I think I threw a paper airplane off it as a kid, but that was 25 years ago, I don't really remember. But, it is silly to throw any coins or anything or "weight" off any tall building in any city. Even though the chances are remote that it will hit a person or car, etc, it still is stupid and also probably illegal.

depends on what you're dropping. a penny won't hurt anyone not even break the skin. all objects have a terminal velocity where gravity pulling the item down equals out with the air resistance pushing up causing it not to accelerate anymore. no matter if you dropped it from 100 feet or 10,000. so yeah i'd drop a coin, paper airplane, or spit off the edge if i really was in a pissy mood

If I knew nobody would get hit at the bottom...yes I'd love to. I've heard a penny will burrow into the sidewalk several feet. I'd love to try it.

No, because the wind would push it back onto one of the lower roofs. The object would never reach the ground.

No, its a form of littering and illegal in any case.

Oh, it would need a bit of mass in order to be deadly, a penny or most coins would not kill anyone.

Why even bother?

Besides, I think there are tall plexi-glass walls up there so you can't throw anything anyway.
