Southeast not south west as the answer above,south west would unfortunately, be taking you to Cuba on the north side, of the island. And if so you first have to go south then turn west south west and south west just to get past Florida Keys..
Going south east will take you Past the commonwealth of the Bahamas,Turks and Caicos islands,Haiti, Dominican rep/ [Hispaniola] then the Mona passage and over the Puerto rican trench onto the northern shores of the island [Puerto rico] north west coast.

San Juan, Puerto Rico is southwest from Miami. The distance is about 1030 miles. However, you cannot go in a straight line, since there are several islands in the way.

You should head southeast. Puerto Rico is located south of Miami, however it is the easternmost of the Greater Antilles.
