In this context I believe he was talking about false prophets claiming to be the messiah. Sometimes you have to consider that Jesus was in flesh and blood, and when he made an absolute statement like that, within the context, it shouldn't be taken as all encompasing. I'm sure if we kept track of all the things we said day to day, we might get confused and think we were contradicting ourselves, but with proper context we can keep things simple.
