I'm designing a calendar for 2009 and already have eight of the months completed, and planning to approach a publisher after I'm done--in about a month. Working title is 'Sensual & Hot Thought-Provoking Women.' Basically, it's an erotic photo calender, with this twist: all the 'models' are successful in intellectual fields. I have one nationally known biologist, a professor of comparative literature, a medical doctor, a theatre director, etc. Models have chosen to what extent they will allow identity to be revealed, i.e., some have faces in shadow, identified only with profession & short bio. (no proper nouns used). Question: do you think this is a good concept and is it marketable (assuming the photos/models are appealing and the art direction is professional since both are true). Serious responses from men & women would be very helpful.

Erotic is just that...it doesn't matter who the subject is. Not many people will put an erotic calendar up....not even a gas station any more. I would probably buy a calendar of successful intellects fully dressed with bios before I would buy the exotic version. It might be interesting to see "who makes the intellectual calendar". Kind of like to who's who calendar of intellects and successful everyday people.

Well, the concept of eroticism will usually sell some.

The concept of "brainy" for 99% of those looking for erotic photos, wont come into play. It'll be about hot women, posed as if they are expecting to be used in a sexual act.

Brainy will be low on expectations. For guys, erotic calendars will be about the "fantasy", and the only reality that needs to be involved, are good to great photos.

I love the idea of hot/smart women in a calendar; however, I think you should lean toward hotness over smarts....

for example, there are lots of photos out there of "the girl next door".. .. I love those, however, I don't want pictures of the actual girl next door to me.. she is totally butt ugly, with a mustache and grossly obese.... what I want is hot girls that sort of look like they might live next door, see the difference?

I don't think the fact that these women are ACTUALLY smart is going to help this sell, now hot women that you make look smart, that will do great, whether they are PHDs or kindergarten dropouts.
