Can flexibility be increased significantly using stretching equipment over a relatively short period of time?

Believe it or not things like yoga actually help to stretch you better than the stretching machines do.

The problem with the machines is that they can very easily pull muscles and snap tendons before you have realised that you have been pushed too far. Therefore it is really important that you stick to the old fashioned methods of stretching and if you want to increase your flexability take on yoga or pilates as they helped me.

You could always take on something like a ballet class but that would depend on how serious you were about building strength as well as flexibility. I know a number of people that studied gymnastics and went on to achieve gold in national championships.

Hope this helps and good luck :)

Hi There

I have been doing the box splits for over 10 years now and the best and cheapest way is good old fashioned stretching.

Yes these machines do work but at best like the thigh master there just a expensive gimmick.

Just sick to the 5 minute a day plan and incorporate other exercises to open your hip joints as well as the hamstrings.

Best wishes

I would stick to good old fashioned methods for stretching. I've never bothered with machines except use a strap sometimes.

There are many books/dvds which have stretches that you can do by yourself without any equipment.

Stretching machines are good for those who have difficulty stretching. Some people have a harder time than others when it comes to this.
