This is what and how I would do it

Go out with them... and use a potty word or words.. mine is *hurry up*
Take them out
Upon Waking
Upon Eating
Upon Drinking
Upon playing for 10-15 mins
Before bed time
Now you have your dog outside and are saying the potty word - the dog eliminates - you then rush your dog inside saying good dog - good *hurry up*... once inside they get a small treat.

Dogs are smart and soon they will be doing a *hurry up* very quickly so then can go inside for the treat... when teaching ***always**** bring them in for the reward- this way they relate only the potty for the outside... no confusion please.

When your dog has an accident in the house pick it up and take him and the poo outside... so he knows... ***exactly what you want of him***...

If You throw him outside with a NO then the puppy thinks being outside is not good - it is punishment- Potty training is learned quickly if it is a good experience for the puppy.

GOOD LUCK.

Congratulations on your puppies! I have a German Shepard (2 years old) and she’s a fantastic dog.

Here’s a few tips for training your wonderful new puppies:

Keep it short and sweet. Dogs have short attention spans. In order to have the most successful training session, limit it to 5-10 minutes. Having several short sessions is more impactful than having one long one.

Timing is everything. Have you ever been in a bad mood? Well, it’s safe to assume your dog has good days and bad days too. Make sure to train your dog when you know he feels good. Taking him for a brief walk before training may help.

The power of positively. Dogs respond best to positive reinforcement, so keep your training sessions positive. Never punish your dog for not responding as you hoped.

Follow the golden rule…but modify it a little. Everyone knows the golden rule…right? Well let’s change this rule a little. Instead of giving your dog what you would want, give your dog what he wants. This will motivate your dog big time during training sessions.

Associate action with reward. Make sure to time the reward immediately after your dog gives you the desired action.

Also, Shepards need LOTS of exercise. Mine isn’t truly happy unless I walk her everyday.

Good luck!

You may wish to check with your local kennel, park, college, or other animal business near you for a puppy kindergarten class. These talk about a lot of common puppy issues, and also gets the dog the early socialization they need. Make sure the puppies get out in the real world often, as they need to see, smell, and touch the world around them.

For housebreaking, First and foremost, when you cannot watch the dog, i.e., at night or when you are not home, the dog needs to be confined to a crate or very small area. A dog will not soil their “home”, as they don’t want to be near it, either!

As soon as you get home, or when you get up in the morning, put the dog on leash, and walk them outside to a spot where you want them to go. Always go to the same area. This will become their potty spot, and will make things a lot easier for clean up. As you go outside with them, tell them to “go potty”. They will soon learn what this means, which will help in the long run.

As soon as they go outside where they are supposed to, a lot of praise, petting, and an occasional treat. This will reinforce that you are happy with them. Do this praise immediately, as a dog’s attention span is very short and if you wait, they will be happy you are praising them, but they will not know why you are praising them.

If the dog makes a mistake and goes in the house –
If you are there and see them start to go, tell them “no” in a firm voice, immediately take them outside to their potty spot.
If you do not see them actually in the act, then do nothing. Scolding the dog after the fact will not teach them, as they will not remember what they did and will not know why you are angry.

Do not give the dog food or water within 2 hours of bed time.
Get the dog on a schedule as soon as possible for feeding and potty times. The dog’s internal system will soon learn this schedule and they will be able to wait until their scheduled time.

if u have the time the cage system is essentially the most mighty and moneymaking for the dog. it typically handiest takes approximately two weeks. what ya do is purchase a kennel rather better than the dog. colossal adequate for him to quite simply flip round in. this serves 2 functions: first, the dog is in a relaxed atmosphere and feels risk-free; moment the dog won't use the toilet in his defense zone. subsequent, given the dog is handiest five weeks u will set him up on a 2 to 3 hour "potty holiday". u may not take him out of the kennel for every other motive until ur feeding him or gambling with him. feeding schedules will have to be 3 occasions an afternoon and play time will have to be correct after feeding. a part hour after feeding he will have to be taken out once more after which both performed with once more and again to his kennel or instantly again to his kennel. u will start to detect while he's competent to head longer among "potty breaks" and for that reason no longer take him out as regularly. while he is as much as approximately 6 hrs check out letting him final thoughout the night time. this is rather like having a baby little one. sacrafices have got to be made to do it correct, however the attempt is valued at it and the effect is exquisite. don't forget, he is ur little one. additionally, that kennel quite does grow to be like a little one's blanket. my dog could run for his kennel each time he was once afraid or desired to cover! lol! i don't forget my a hundred and fifteen lb rottie seeking to are compatible n2 a fifteen lb kennel.... soooo humorous! :) oh, and while u take him external, check out do urself a prefer and take him to the equal field in ur garden everytime, or else ur gonna have a tremendous mess on ur arms. a few conduct are less difficult to make than to wreck! lol!! take care and well success!

The most important is long health walks. and potty training.

Every dog will train at their own speed; unfortunately for you.
The most import thing is that you really donate the TIME to keep a close watch on them.

Their bladders are very small and need to go out often. At least once an hour. Have a key word for going out. Our's is "lets check the back" which means were are all going to the back yard and do our business. That is better than saying lets go pee. Keep a close watch on them. If you see them acting like they might be about to squat or hike, make an abrupt noise or a whistle to get their attention and grab them and go outside immediately. I don't like to paper train because later they will pee on any paper left in the floor because you taught them to do that. I hope you are not up-stairs in the apartment.

If you have to you can train them to one of those pads you buy at the pet stores for now and later when you get the house, move the pad outside and later just do away with the pad.

Wash any area that they do use, so you remove any smell. So that spot doesn’t attract them back. Don't scold them or hit them, they did what nature intended and they have to learn where the proper place it and that's your job. Don't rub their noses in the spot that is certainly going to teach them to go out side....yea.!

The most important thing is to be consistant and very watchful.

Some people will crate train. Keep them in the crate and let out to play in the yard and then return to the crate. It could take several days to 2 weeks before they get the idea that outside is to pee. But remember they cannot open that door because the handle is too high....so if they pee in the house it is your fault not theirs.

Another big item that it would help is if your family is on the same page and will help with the training. If you have to train, do the housework and fight with everyone else, it is not going to be a good 2 weeks. Talk with family member and request their help. Small dogs who are absolutely obnoxious can learn as long as you and your husband establish yourself as the alpha of the pack and don't let the "cute" little guys run you
You need to make them know that YOU are the pack leader. I'll give you a few tricks.

1) walking on a leash is IMPORTANT. Put him on a leash, and put him in a sit position. The walk starts when he is calm and you decide to start. Go out the door/gate ahead of him and keep him to your side or behind you. If he is out from, then he is the pack leader. IMMEDIATELY when he tries to get ahead or start for another dog, STOP him by pulling UP on the leash, not back. If he continues to try to lead, reverse your direction so that you are now in the lead. If he approaches another dog, put him in a sit position and make him stay there. Keep using the sit position to control, or refersing directions. He should learn pretty quickly that you will tolerate no misbehavior.

2) DO NOT pet or reward him with attention when he is bad. Push him down, stand up, ignore, leave the room.....whatever, but ABSOLUTELY NO, attention to bad behavior. Petting is for good hehavior.

3) In extreme cases, because of bad behavior, push him to the floor on his side, put you hand in a claw position at his neck (feels like a dog bite) and hold him down until he calms. When he can lay on the floor (without your hand on him) in a calm position he will have submitted to your authority. you will be recognized as the pack leader. Be sure you have help around if he is violent so you don't get dog bit. But this is what another dog will do to him to show who is the boss. And you have to be the boss.

good luck

german shepherds and goldens are VERY smart dogs so they will be SO easy to train. get a good book on both breeds and read all you can on them. next step is to get them into obidience/agility classes. these clases are good because they are fun (for you and the dogs ) and most importanlty it SOCIALIZES the dogs

good luck

Your best bet is to go to a pet store/book store and get a dog training book. You can learn a LOT from them =) Good luck!

i am another fan of petsmart. i have taken both of my labs there for training with wonderful results. the main thing to remember is that they DO NOT TRAIN your dog. they train YOU to train your dog.

many repetitions, now with them being puppies when they get to excited they may pee all over place. meaning when you tell them to set or what have you and they do as you ask when you praise them for it it may get them to happy and guess what they are peeing lol so dont scold them for this.

If you live near a PetSmart, they have great classes. You can also check your area for trainers, such as at your vet's office, etc.
