i lived on the 10th floor on an apartment building, and i owned a great dane. No problems. She was walked 3 times a day (morning, day and evening) and had play time each time. we lived couple of steps away from a grass field and a beach so she had plenty of space to relieve herself and to play. in fact i think she probably got more exercise than dogs living in a house since we actually walked her and played with her and didn't just shove her outside into the backyard. BTW i currently live in the house with a large yard and i don't let my dog run around unsupervised. i still take her our 3 times a day and i walk and play with her. the only time she goes in the backyard is in the morning and the rest of the time i take her to the park.
oh and about the 10th floor stairs walking. you know this great invention, has been around for some time now. its called the elevator.

It can be a problem. But you have a schedule and strangely most dogs can adjust their needs to the schedule. Early morning out and the last things at night and a few breaks during the day.
You can make a patch of grass in the apartment if you have enough room. When you go out you take a poop scoop and some plastic bags. Most people feel the joy the animal brings is worth the trouble.
There are dog walkers who you pay to come by and take the animals out and spend time with them ...especially if you have a long work day. It's also a great way to earn extra money for someone who has the time to be a dog-walker.
I love my guys but I don't think I would have an animal in a high-rise apartment.

I have a huge field right outside my apartment breezeway which makes being a dog owner easier in an apt, but oth of my dogs are housetrained and have never once gone to the bathroom inside despite the fact that we live on the 3rd floor. It's good excercise for me! lol
It's all about routines in potty training, you could live on the 10th floor and still be able to successfully potty train. You just have to be very reliable in taking them out as often as they need.

I live in an apartment and have to small Pomeranians..I have yet to have a problem taking them outside for a pee....I just walk them around the building or take them around the block...it's not hard to own a dog in an apartment with the exception of the barking, but if you have that under control your golden!

We had a lab and a husky in an apartment and they were great. We did make sure that we walked them regularly at least a mile or more to ensure they received enough exercise. We had many fields in the complex to take them, we just had to make sure we picked up their mess. It is easier with a backyard, but as long as the owner takes responsibility of their pets, it can work out just fine in an apartment.

I don't know of too many buildings with10 floors that don't have elevators. We're very lucky- our building OSS less than a block from a nice park. We walk there at least three times a day and I dispose of my dogs' waste in trash containers at the park.
