apply some Vegetable Glycerin, or corn huskers lotion.
also apply some Lavender mixed with Vitamin E oil (the hightest potency you're willing to pay for).

I have had this problem before, and it really sucks >__<
I have a few ideas for products you could try:
--
'Dream Cream' from Lush:
http://www.lush.co.uk/products/Dream_Cream_1922.aspx
'Handy Gurugu' from Lush:
http://www.lush.co.uk/products/Handy_Gurugu_2946.aspx
'Sympathy For The Skin' from Lush:
http://www.lush.co.uk/products/Sympathy_For_The_Skin_1932.aspx
These Lush products are great.
They are made from all natural ingredients (So you don't have to worry about your sore hands being affected by chemicals).
They are good quality, and also aren't tested on animals (http://www.lush.co.uk/Uploads/Image/animaltesting.gif).
Plus, they smell gorgeous, I've tried them personally.
If you don't have a Lush store near you, you can order them off the website and get them sent to you.

Vaseline Intesive Rescure Moisture Locking Lotion:
http://www.vaseline.com/intensive-rescue.html
This product is great, because it's designed for chapped and unhealthy hands. It helps to lock in moisture all day to maintain the environment which your skin needs to repair.
Johnsons Extra Care Healing Hand Cream:
http://www.johnsonsforyou.com/products_dry.jsp?id=3#spot
Similar to the vaseline one, but in my opinion smells nicer.
--
Use the hand cream you choose at least once a day, and you should be able to see the difference within a few days. It'll probably take a while to clear up, but I'm sure your skin will be feeling soft soon.
Before you go out in the cold, put hand cream on then wear gloves.
Also ditch any harsh soap you use, and replace it with a baby soap, something non-fragranced or a moisturing one, because that could be a reason for your sore hands.
And if you do the washing up, wear rubber gloves.
Hope I helped, I have personal experience in this area, i know how horrible it can be and wish i could have sorted my problem out sooner. x

at the drug store there is this nasty stuff called bag balm. its actually used on cow udders, its a thick jelly type substance that is medicated. i have used this on people who have severe dry skin on feet and hands. (works really well) use this at night and make sure you have sheets you dont care for because this may leave a greasy stain. only use at night and during the day use luberderm. sorry about my spelling. i work with people with disabilities and i am in nursing school so i kinda know what i am talking about :)
ihave also had friends use this on skin that is so dry that it cracks and bleeds and they said it helped better than some rx lotions they have tried

DO NOT use anything with fragrance in it. Use Cortizol cream (from your dermatologist) or Neutragena Norweigan Formula Hand Cream (it's in a little white squeeze triangular bottle with blue and red on it). And after you put on the Neutragenia Concentrated cream, sleep with a soft, thin clove over your hand to hold in the moisture longer.

I have the same problem. My skin cracks when I am writing. Chapped skin really hurts. Try using hand lotion to help the dryness.

I would use Aveeno moisturizing lotion (it has oatmeal in it that really gets into the skin and begin the healing process) or Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion (commonly used for stretch marks, but it is really moisturizing and thick)

I use Vaseline Intensive care lotion on my hands, but you could try Nivea cream or Johnsons baby oil.

I have used a hand scrub (little scrubby beads), and then hand cream (lay it on thick). Mary Kay makes this little set for hands, I really like that, and I think it's around 8-10 dollars.

Try asking your local pharmacist for help - if its something that has been going on for a while, maybe your doctor could indicate a good cream to use to heal your hands.
Maybe a hydrocortisone cream might help (contains steriods) like E45 Hydrocortisone - thats a good one
