I don't believe in God, nor do I believe in heaven. What should I tell my children when they ask about death?

Fellow non-believers, what did you (or, what are you going to) tell your children about dying?

We're in the same boat.

I've had a few deaths in the family recently and my son naturally asked questions. I just told him that it's natural for people to die and that we will all die one day.

Of course, that was not an explicit response to my son's questions, but he's only 5 and he seemed pretty much satisfied. He did tell me though that he has no plan to die till he's really old. Aaaah, kids!

But seriously, I plan to teach him that it's this life that matters and that he has only this one chance to be productive to our society, so he better do something about it ~grins~

(((HUGS)))

P.S. I do plan to teach him later on that there are people who believe in the after life and I will teach him about religions of the world - so that I don't beat myself for not keeping all options open for him.

Sorry, I'm a Christian and don't have an answer for you. Just make sure that they research their own truth when they get older, so that they may have an answer for their kids.
