My 5 year year old goes to bed at 8:30-9:00 and she gets up at 7:00, she seems to be doing good with that schedule! A few times she's even come home from school and taken a 30-45 minute nap.

Id say about 10 hours my daughter is 5 and she goes to bed around 9:30-10 and then gets up at 6:30 and she seems fine she is tired when she gets home from school but has a 18 month old brother that wont let her sleep, but I think around 10 is fine enough

It varies from child to child, and can vary while going through growth spurts, etc. If he's tired when you wake him up in the mornings, he needs more sleep.
I let my 5 year old wake up naturally instead of waking her up, and adjust her bedtime so that she is waking at about the right time. She usually needs about 11 hours of sleep per night, so if I want her up around 7:30, I get her to sleep by 8:30. If she starts waking up later or earlier, I adjust her bedtime a bit.

I think 10 hours is enough for a child that young...
but all children are different. Try putting him to bed 1/2 hour earlier... sometimes 30 minutes makes a big difference!

That sounds about right. If you are waking him up early then it's normal for them to act tired still :)

8 hours if fine, too much might be making him tired.
