To those who say Prayer does not work...their responses on "testing" prayer is as scientificaly valid as the following:
1 - assumption, US government has trillions of dollars at its disposal.
2 - George W Bush is president and final signutory body for the budget.
Based off 1 & 2, if I send a "letter" to George, asking for a mere 1% of 1% of 1%, I should have no problem recieving it.
Now..when I don't receive any money, it means assumption 1 or 2 is not correct.
Now..can you imagine how stupid I would look if I went to the bank and said "I sent a letter to the President asking him for some money, never got any, so therefore, either the President doesn't exist, or the US govt just doesn't have any money."
Should you continue to pray? if the desire to pray is because one thinks God is nothing more than a cosmic gum ball machine, then I wouldn't expect much. If on the other hand, someone wants to pray, because they truly feel they are entering into conversation with the King of the universe, and furhtermore, the King knows precisely what is best for everyone, by all means...keep praying!!

It depends on what you consider prayer. Some people just see God as a bigger version of Santa--gimme, gimme, gimme. Then they are disappointed when things don't turn out as they prayed. But probably you are looking for something deeper. If so, think of prayer as communication between you and God, or you and the Divine, to just be focused on God in a way that you can't when you are active or distracted. As to whether you should bother, or course the theists are going to say yes, and the atheists are going to say no. But I must say it's definitely worth it; prayer has enriched my spirit immeasurably and helped me see the universe and my little place in it differently. Just remember, learning to pray is a process of disciplining the mind and spirit. Like any discipline, it takes a while. Some people are so comfortable with prayer, it's easy to make comparisons and think "Why can't I do that?" But your way of praying may be very different from theirs. I think you should be patient with yourself and with the process.

Prayer is as simple as talking to God. God always answers prayer. Sometimes it is wait, or no. The best prayer is to pray God's will. This we know from reading and studying His word, the Bible. Should I pray to prosper, or be healed...Yes. God would like us all to be healthy and prosperous. Many seem to feel God isn't answering prayer. One important part of prayer is listening. So knowing all of this, do pray. I just had a prayer answered today. I prayed it for about 2 weeks, and the positive answer came. It so blessed me and someone else! I will pray that you will pray effectively, and receive the answers.

I get A kick out of the negative answers to a question like this.
Pride and vanity, the devils favorite tools, hope you learn, as I have, the piece and serenity of having true Faith . Also that there is a power greater than yourself. Prayer is just an admission that you respect, believe and submit yourself to this higher power " God". Sounds like he is knocking on your door , you should answer, and find the truth.
Good Luck.

If you want to get to know someone you talk to them. You can't see God but since He made you and loves you...why not get to know Him? It's in your best interest to know Him too. He really wants you to know Him...so just talk to Him. You don't have to have any fancy words....just be yourself and talk. Tell Him what you want, don't want, hate, love....He WANTS to hear you! He is just waiting. This isn't one-sided either....He already has a letter for you....the Bible. It is full of stories to help you with YOUR life. He also says to "be still" and "know" that He is God. We get to running around so much in our lives that we don't have time to know Him. Who do you think holds all this world and universe together? I sure think we should bother to get to know Him....which is prayer...talking to God. I will pray for you....to be able to just talk to God, get to know Him...you will not regret it!

Yes, please do pray to God, because He longs to hear from you and longs for you to spend time with Him.
Here's suggestions to start you off with: The Lord's Prayer, the one we are commanded to pray. I'll have to read the Bible again to get the exact spot where this prayer is mentioned, but it's in the New Testament:
Our Father, Who are in heaven, Hallow be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the glory, now and forever. In Jesus's name, Amen.
When praying, DO always end it in Jesus's name, as it's because it's through Him we get to the heavenly Father.
Here's another prayer, the Serenity Prayer. This is the one used in AA meetings, but this applies to even the people who are not addicted to something: Father, grant us the serenity to change the things we can, courage to change the things we can, and wisdom to know the difference.
Also, you can try Psalm 51. It was a prayer used by David to asked to be forgiven of sins. Don't worry about the burnt offerings part, as burnt offerings did not apply in the New testament, thanks to Jesus, bless His heart, became our Saviour.
Then, just ask God to put words into your heart during time of praying. He's waiting for you! :-)
Also, as dear Brother Semper mentioned, sometimes prayers are done silently.
Also, make sure you thank God for everythng you are grateful for and happy with, from somethingas big as the fact you are alive today to somethingas small as the tree in the back yard you adore.
I hope I been of help. Need any additional help, write me!
(((((HUGS & HOLY KISSES)))). I love you, and Bless you!
Peace be with you!
But to give you a heads up, sometimes prayers will be answered, and sometimes they won't. They get answered according to God's plans for us, and He'll answer them when He's ready to. Sometimes we have to be patient. He also won't give us what He feels is bad for us.
I'll pray for you!

Never say can't. Turn to God, ask Him to help you. He hears all, He knows all, before you ever utter a word. He will answer you if you turn to Him with a believing heart. He is truly awesome and wants nothing more for you than the very best. Open your eyes, ears, and heart, what awaits you is nothing less than spectacular.

Prayer does nothing enlightened one! You can test it a million times very easily. Get something of chance, like the flip of a coin. Pray that it will land on heads 100 times in a row. It will never happen!!!!
