I would like to get social security benefits for my 14 yr. old son. His father died at age 18 when my son was 3 months old. We were not married at the time, but he is on the birth certificate. Can my son get benefits?

I beleive that you should have been recieving benefits since the time that he died. Check with your states dept. of family services, they could better answer, or direct you where to go. Good Luck!

This is going to be really, really hard. I think you're probably in the UK because of using the term "mates" and I'm from the US so I don't know what they would call it there but we have "Boot Camp" type things for teens having problems like this. It seems harsh but he's obviously gotten out of control and it's not looking good for him. If he witnessed the behaviors you were describing from the man who beat you etc. it's what he's learned. Do yourself a favor, more importantly, do HIM a favor and look into something like this. He may hate you now but if he gets turned around he'll thank you some day!

Yes and I think you should to. If he worked at all you should be getting his social security. You might want to check with you state laws for the kind of information. If you were married to him if not then you get nothing. But your son should be able toget something for him. I am sorry to hear about your loss and his. I will pray for you and your sone. May God Bless you and your family. Look into it.
