Come on dude, you're messing up a good story with logic.

Religion is a trans-rational way of thinking. The laws of physics get suspended for the sake of a miracle and to help underline a greater truth.

The best part of Jonah come later on when God spares the city of Minerva and Jonah has a fit. That conversation between God and Jonah, may or may not have ever happened, but those Bible verse have help me so much to forgive, tolerate and live with my fellow humans.

In short don't get hung up details, besides the miracles are for the rubes, the people who need miracles to get them to believe. You sound like you're above and beyond that.

The physical reason: gas in the form of oxygen and carbon dioxide and the bi-products of fermentation.

The spiritual reason: Jonah had to be an example because just as Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the sea creature so also Christ would be 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the earth.

It was pre-determined that commercial Christianity would believe the myth that Christ was only one day and two nights in the belly of the earth (Re: the "Good" Friday-Easter Sunday tradition of man.)

Christ died on Wednesday, Nisan 14, at about 3 PM, the same time the Passover lambs were being killed. He was put into the ground just before sundown that same day. He rose on the following Saturday, just before sundown, three days and three nights later.

You know I find it strange. In the areas of Science when something unexplainable happens (Black Holes, The Placebo Effect, Deja-Vu) science throws a theory at it and all is good.

Black Holes for example. Based almost solely on Einsteins "General Relativity" work the science world has composed a rather lengthy position on the possible existence of black holes. The second link below from the Chandra project go so far as to create artist illustrations to show "The accompanying illustration (top) depicts how such an event may have occurred." For all you english majors, may does not imply certainty "might" would have been a much stronger word selection.

However, with all this conjecture in the all powerful notions of science, Christians are the ones who get pounded for accepting seemingly unprovable events.

At least we have the decency to accept that God has the ability to work outside of the norms of His creation instead of making stuff up on the fly and saying "Well that's our best guess... start teaching it!!!!"

Air was sufficient, more than enough for Jonah to breathe inside the body and besides that big fish eats only planktons, so the smell is not as odorous.

There inside he didnt experienced heat exhaustion but it was totally cold - fish are cold blooded. So while he was inside the body the temperature was regulated as normal that he could breathe normally.

All I know is that I'd be very suspect of the writings of had from anyone I'd had to fish out of a pool of great fish vomit or great fish poop depending on which end he came out. That sucker had to have been crazy as a loon.
