whenver I reach a certain level of nervousness, I get diarreah, and it doesn't go away till I calm down, usually not for awhile, like, say four or five hours after whatever said incident passes. My hubby gets this too, usually as we are leaving to go somewhere, and we are in a hurry, and are running late, he makes us even moreso late by having to " go" and it is diarreah. Is this a mental, emotional or a physical phenomena? I am curious. Please, no ignorant or demeaning comments.

Yes, there is better diagnosed as IBS. Irritable Bowel Syndrome. When you know that you have a great stressor ahead-plan ahead. You may want to have Immodium AD on had. There is a pill form and a liquid form. You will need to test out the dose to see what is best for you. Not too much because you won't go for awhile if you do. Stay hydrated! If you are having quite a few trips to the bathroom have a bottle of Gatorade a few sips at a time this usually helps me! This way you will get relief. Try some self calming techniques. Deep, breathing, journaling, talk yourself through what you are doing this sometimes helps. Also, try eating a bland diet like rice, potatoes, bananas, and lots of bread those food that typically bind you up on days that you are dealing with stressful events! Try to think relaxing thoughts! I hope this helps!

It's really very common. It even lead to the phrase "I almost s**t myself" meaning "I was very scared", and lots of colloquial variants, i.e. "it was a brown pants job". A doctor could probably explain the actual mechanism that causes it to happen, and he MAY be able to help prevent it, but not always. Sometimes this is one of those things you have to accept as part of being human.

Yes, stress or nervousness can mess up the entire gastro-intestinal track. It can cause upset stomach, acid reflux, spastic colon, diarreah, constipation, etc.

I think it's true. A lot of people get nervous tummies! Some puke, some "go" I think it's a little of all three of those you listed. You are mentally and emotanally nervous, which kicks your body up!
