Religions generally say the purpose of life is to serve God(s).
The fact there is religion says nothing about the meaning of life other then it is something a lot of people are so desperate to understand they create far fetched stories about what they really, really wish could be true.

That would depend entirely on what religion you have. Overall though, I think most religions are based on some type of sacrifice for a reward.

Different religions say different things. Mines basically says that all life is precious, even the life of animals and we must therefore not kill and eat them.
