My husband is thinking about joining the Military. I'm not a permanent resident (I applied in October and am still waiting for acceptance - I've already doen the biometrics and fingerprinting). Once I get a green card and my husband joins, where can I find employment if we are relocated to another country? For example, if we have to move to Spain or France, I don't speak the language and my major is in Social Work (working with people who don't speak the same langage can be hard). Where can I find employment in my field while overseas?

You don't indicate if your degree is an MSW or BSW. You will have many more opportunities with an MSW. Given your international status (you should try to retain dual citizenship) this could really work to your advantage. Also on the larger bases you might be able to get work contracting with the military - social workers are in need.

I am a nurse and my fiancee has been moved about 6 times in 8 years. Every time we have moved I have been able to find a job usually on base, sometimes off but I have always had a job and we are not even married.
Don't worry you have a license and your line of work is always needed.
In the military we take care of our own.

Check USAJOBS.com, a lot of times they have great jobs overseas. As a social worker you might even find a job on base through one of the family service centers too. You might be limited because of your green card status though. Spouses aren't prohibited from working off the base overseas.

most military wives while stationed overseas work on base....either through aafes/nex, services (which runs things on base like the bowling alleys, childcare centers, etc) or do in home daycare. If you go to a country which requires you to have a visa to work there as a military wife you may run into trouble as you will have to get basically a whole new green card for that country. I have a friend who while in Japan married a filipina..when he PCS'd to Italy she was unable to even go with him even though she had acquired a US green card.

You have already gotten alot of really good answers. A military spouse that gets sent over seas that already has job skills usually gets employed somewhere on the military base. If that isn't an option..then ACS will try to find you a job somewhere off base where you qualify! good luck!

You can always contact www.militaryonesource.com and speak with them. They also have job board postings.
If not when you get on the base they usually have a Army Community Service building (ACS) and they can usually help find employment for the spouses.

you don't family members are prohibited from working on the economy OCONUS. On base, you are limited as well, as most of the jobs are set aside for Host nationals, also as part of the Status of Forces Agreement. as a non citizen, your options are even MORE limited.

many spouses use this time to continue their education(lots of opportunity on base OCONUS) as well as do volunteer work.
