Ok so given that we are about 2000 years out in the christian faith and given that this religion has evolved considerably over that time, what will it be like in 20,000 years? If, say in 20,000 years, Christ has not returned and there is no rapture - where would that leave christianity?

I ask this question also thinking about the history of human endeavour - during the 2000 years of christianity, only the last 400 or so (since galileo really) has any real alternative* been available. And only in the last 100 years has this alternative been potent. In the last 30 years things have hotted up and now every day, science is forging a brave new world while christianity is still trying to answer the same question it was millenia ago.

Will christianity be able to compete or is it doomed to eventual failure?

See if you can answer this question thinking far into the future - not just here and now.

(Quoting scripture is pointless here - tell me what *you* think, not what the bible says!)

I think we could reach a point where dogma effects speciation. I wonder which set will be more equipped to survive. On the one hand, it seems like a no-brainer that those who value science will fare better, but the born-again set reproduces at a great er rate and that could be just as powerful. Probably not a great answer, but it would make a cool sci-fi movie.

This is deviating from the Q a little. However in 20,000 years, I believe scientists will also agree that there has to be a supreme being to have created the heavens and the earth. Even now, scientists have no explanation for the sheer volume of Space. The more and more scientists get into space, the more awe struck they become? I think that was what God wanted when he created space- for people to become awe stuck, and wonder.

Now for the Q & A:

Q:Will Christianity prevail or be doomed..?
A: Christianity will prevail as long as The Chicago campus ministry is around!! Yahooooooo!!! (no pun intended) Now for the Question of 20000 years later. Hmm, Its scarey to even think about whats going to happen 500 years from now. Will we have bionic parts, will there be a such thing as being human, feeling normal, growing up playing kickball in the streets? I dont know, but as long as we do what the bible says i dont know how we can fail. If God is for us, who can be against us? Its been 2000 years since the birth of christ, and i believe there are more people who follow the bible more now than before.

I think a much more pertinent question is, "Will human civilization survive 20,000 years, given the well documented negative effects of superstitious religion on human culture?" You are correct about the effect of the scientific revolution on our civilization. Whether the ignorant masses will continue to imagine reality revolves around subjective mental experience (Solipsism) is the key. If the bulk of humanity refuses to accept that only the physical realm is objectively real, and that subjective mental experiences arise from our living brains, human civilization is ultimately doomed.

Religious superstition may very well contribute to civilization's collapse, before we are able to develop the infrastructure and technology needed to colonize the distant stars. It is inevitable that cosmic forces -- an inflated Sun, or a wandering planetesimal -- must eventually destroy the Earth. Isn't it ironic that superstitious belief in a creator-god may ultimately contribute to humanity's extinction?

If the would is here Christians are here when the Christians are gone the would is gone.

If the world last that long which I don't believe it has less than 2000 years left it is because it is GOD's will.

God will go the distance to make sure all hearts have received him

There is no other option on this earth all will bow on their knees before the Lord and there is nothing you can do to change it. You have had your chance.

Genesis 18
32 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?"
He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."

I hope no religon exists 100 years from now. It is the reason for alot of the terrible things in the world. I think people will start to wisen up and reliaze that science explains all the phenomenons and that there is no god or heaven or hell. I give christianity about 200 years with all the scientific advances

in 2210 christianity will be mereley a cult of radicals clinging to to the old ways

C has adapted and adopted many strands into mainstream and therefore I don't doubt that it will survive although not in any recogniseable form. As a mythic device for improving culture, it has had some success but sadly its extremist side has done much damage. As for the picture in the future. It will need to encompass a wider population and perhaps merge with other mainstream religions before being recognised as a power to improve society. Bashing other faiths and hiding in extremism will have to go. We need to be able to work together.

IF a person truly has a loving relationship AND friendship w/GOD then they'd know that TIME IS IRRELEVENT. Ya see, Man continues to be enslaved by the tik-tiks of a clock that even they can't control. Contemporary theology is stuck like Chuck trying to figure out answers that're already inside of EACH of us. It's just like "going to heaven" - we're ALLREADY there (making this plane of existence HELL! )

GOD MAKES BLACK WHAT HUMANS HAVE MADE WHITE !

F8th allows US the strength to be able to cre8te, then re-cre8te. It is BEing that WE must strive more for! BEing ourselves instead of being what we're told. LOVE IS FREEDOM, not ecumenical slavery. Most religions preach that GOD is UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, yet churches make their demands "in the name of GOD".

YESHUA preached consistently our loving each other but in 2000 yrs. Humans've resorted to extermination (American Indians), enslavement (Afri-Americans), prejudice (Hispanics) and STILL don't recognize these "rules" debase the very GOD they "serve" !
IF-ever Humans recognize GOD is ALL then Humans may just realize:
"OURS" IS NOT THE "ONLY" WAY/RIGHTEOUS WAY TO GOD FOR GOD IS ALLREADY INSIDE OUR WAY
THEN, IF-ever, will our struggles against each other disappear! The peace often dipicted in some futuristic shows/movies reflect these revelations, it's getting there that WE must have F8th in achieving. I BE-lieve as a people, WE will get there.

REMEMBER:
GOD is where the Human Race is One!

the truth is out there
we do not know and
as the man said "you can't handle the truth"

unless man re-establishes ethics and morals governing self--
could we agree that in 20K years there may be no world populace...
and if there is no interest in regenerating ethics and morals do we wish for the world to be here anyway.......

as to the Christianity questions--
--perhaps discoveries in the middle east digs will provide information making the Christ more understandable than the plethora of accummulated lores
included by the priest in formulation of the so called Christian Bible.
....an excellent book by the way---and a history lesson too----Constantine where art thou---it seems
the winners rewrite the previous history to satisfy the rewriting done by the winners....

I think it will probably exist in some form, kind of like we still have Amish today or tribal groups living a rather primitive existence. But I don't think it will be as popular as it is today. Good luck.

God, now there's a depressing thought.

The only religion on earth close to being that old is the tribal animism which Christianity and Islam have done their best to exterminate.
