My parents treat me like they are my friends and I am used to getting treated the same as adults but whenever I go to school or something I get yelled at at an adult who demands all the respect in the world. AKA my princaple and my neighbor...
- MY neighbor says I am destructing public property and that she is going to call the cops if I keep it up (I am not even doing anything!! There are other kids that do it but not me!!)
- MY princaple keeps on telling me to listen to the adults because they deserve more respect than I do or something..

IS IT OK FOR ME TO WANT TO TEAR THERE HAIR OUT!!!?? Why do adults demand so much respect!?

I don't need to change my ways, I am good as I am. I don't misbehave in public really ever. The worst that I've ever done was cry in walmart.

Hun, adults suck. Just never become like one of them. And if they demand respect from them, just tell them to piss off and respect YOU first if they want any respect from you. Your neighbor? Tell her to show you proof or YOU'll be the one calling the cops. And your principal? Tell him it's the 2000's, not the 50's anymore and that in the meantime things got ambiguous.
You hang in there girl, YOU RULE!

I know exactly how you feel it can be really hard when you are young but mature. I would just tell your neigbour to stop harassing you and that you have the right to be treated as a human being, if there is no evidence the police won't do anything about it they will just start to ignore her complaints.
The other issue is what i call power madness some teachers end up with it all going to their head's schools can't actually do much too students, tell him that you are more than happy to comply with his request but equally he should give you some respect as a student yourself. He might not take it too easily but that is a resonable thing to say.
Just remeber there are adults out there who are wiser than us young people and do deserve respect :)

Best of luck

If your parents treat you like a friend then they've done you a disservice. Parents shouldn't be their kids' friends while they're still raising them. That should be left for adulthood. Adults should treat young people with respect and young people should treat adults with respect. Often adults don't treat young people with respect and then wonder why they can't get any. Of course, it can go the other way around too. If people are treating you crappy, make sure you aren't doing the same to them. Often changing your attitude towards them will result in an immediate change on their part too.

You are getting yelled at by adults and told to show respect? Welcome to life!

When you are an adult you'll get yelled at by other adults who want respect because they are even OLDER than you are.

When you get a job you'll get yelled at by bosses who want respect because they are your boss...and they might be older than you are, or they might be younger.

Being a kid is not always fun...being an adult is even less fun. In fact, sometimes it sucks!

Just be the best you can be...and don't give people any reason to dis-respect you!

When you get older, your perception of people younger than you changes drasticly and you tend to forget just how intelligent and mature you felt (and probably were) when you were younger. Alot of people when they get older start to feel that age and experience gives them the right to condescend to people they see as being below them merely because of the age difference. We are all guilty of it. When I was 20 I felt like an adult, I had a full time job, a serious relationship, and was completely self reliant in most ways. Now when I see people that age they look like kids to me, but I try to check myself and remember how much I understood about the world back then, and how frustrating it was to be treated like an idiot because of my age. I know its hard to deal with, its understandable you have anger and frustration toward peoples agist tendencies but just as adults need to learn empathy towards youths, it would be good for you to understand that when you are their age, you will probably see people your age as not having the wisdom and experience you will have gained over the years, and might want to treat them like dumb kids, that certainly doesnt make it right though. I fully agree with Mr. Know it all: adults are stupid.

Some adults are freaky weird. It's like they almost demand their butts to be kissed. I always tell my kids, 'just because they are adults doesn't always mean they are smarter than you'.
Just tell the adults what they want to hear and move on.

Good Luck; it's not easy growing up.

Because they are older and we older pple are usually under the mistaken impression that just because we've managed not to die for a longer time than you that we know more. That's basically the point of life, not dying by sheer dumb luck. Why one person should get more respect just because they've been luckier than another makes no sense to me. I still get told to respect my elders and I'm 22. It never ends.

Try changing your ways. If you are not doing anything wrong you can explain yourself to them. I'm sure that an adult( principal , your neighbor) will never wrongly accuse you. You will get respect if you show it to people. May be you get away with things at home. Not everybody is going to be your parent and pet you on your back , and praise you if you don't act appropriate in public. Kids do bad things in public because they JUST DON'T CARE.
Give this a thought.
