I do this by eye, but I can get my 6 year old picky eater to eat it. Take the pot roast and season liberally with salt and pepper. Then brown it quickly in a sautee pan with a little olive oil. You want the heat to be really high.
Then I put it in the crock pot with 1 large sliced onion, a few stalks of sliced celery, 2 - 3 cloves of diced garlic, a small bag of baby carrots. I top this with 1 c. of red wine and cover the pot roast with stock. I guess beef would be best, but I can't tell the difference when I use chicken honestly. Then I pop in 1 bay leaf and a sprig of fresh thyme. Let this cook on low for about 6 hours. Then I add about 2 tbsp. of S & P and a few cubed potatoes. Let this cook for about another 2 hours.

LOOK Ms.Always Right! I "found" your recipe too and I'm actually going to put the link under "source"
Sorry but I can't stand when people copy/paste recipes and call them their own.
Anyhow, Here is MY recipe....
Just take some veggies like carrots, onions, parsnips(2 of each) and chop them up, 2 crushed garlic cloves and put them in the crock pot, add your lightly floured/ salt & peppered pot roast on top of them.
Pour 1 1/2 cups of beef stock and 1/4 cup of water over the whole thing and add a tablespoon of tomato paste and a bag of frozen peas.
Cook on low for about 8 hours

Crock pot roast is awesome! And yes, you'll need some liquid - about 12 ounces for a 2 or 2.5 pound roast. Beer is best, though beef broth would also be good, and I've even used Dr Pepper successfully in the past. Definitely put the carrots and onions at the bottom of the pot, then the liquid, then the meat. If you add potatoes, put them in last - if you put them on the bottom, they'll absorb too much liquid and turn to mush. Carrots are tougher; they can take it. And season the meat before it goes in the pot. Even a packet of onion soup mix is good for that.

Easy-peasy but tastes homemade!!!
Easy & Delicious Crockpot Beef Roast
1 chuck or rump Beef Roast (sized for your crockpot)
1/2 Cup of Water
1 Packet of Ranch Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Italian Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Brown Gravy Mix
Put roast in crockpot, pour water around the base. Sprinkle all 3 dry seasoning packets over roast. Cover and cook for 6-7 hours on low. Remove roast to cutting board and let sit 15 minutes; slice thinly across the grain . It makes great tasting gravy too, that tastes like you browned it and simmered it all day on the stove.

Will depend on on the context really. Which is better as a snack - fruits for me personally. It's tastier and gives you that little bit of sweetness. Which can be better as a snack if you are trying hard to lower back on sugar and lose weight vegetables
