Why do you need the card?

Get a secured credit card or student/college credit card. You'll have to put some money ($300-$500) into a secure bank account that you can not access while your credit card is active. Once you build a history with them, you'll be able to get your money back and have a normal credit card.

Be very very careful. Credit is good to have, but credit cards can be very dangerous. You should only charge as much as you can pay at least 3/4th off the monthly bill. Even then be careful.

I was never into having something I couldn't pay for, but credit cards do help establish other credit.

I got my first credit card by going into Radio Shack and purchasing a $200 stereo that I could have paid cash for. They approved me, I paid it off in 4 months, just to establish reliability. After that I applied for a gas credit card. Charged small amounts of gas each month, paid the bill in full.

Within 6 months, I was able to apply for a VISA or Mastercard (can't remember now which). I provided my 'credit history' and poof... got my card. NOw I get tooo many offers to apply. I just throw them away. Too much credit is not always a good thing

When I needed to establish credit I applied for large Department store credit cards like JCPenny, Macy's Burdines etc. Once I got those I bought very little and paid them off over time to establish credit history. Then I managed to get a credit card or two or four. Which basically was a mistake and I ruined my credit.

Now I pay cash for everything, while re-establishing my credit with car loans and mortgages paid timely.

If you get one just be careful.

no credit or bad credit they will deny you because these two make your score low. you need a high credit score. and the more you apply for credit and get denied the more your score drops. to get credit with no credit or bad credit, you would have to apply for a prepay credit card where you add money to build your credit, you search sites for credit cards for bad credit like example household bank credit cards would be a good one. and you apply to build your credit. but only one is all you want and for your credit to build you would have to mae sure your payments are always on time and are there. yo dont want too many credit cards as it will hurt you in the long run.

Nobody needs a credit card. Even if you need to rent a car save your money then ask someone to charge it on their card and you pay them in cash. Debit cards are almost the same as credit cards for buying things that you can afford.
Credit cards are more likely to cause problems until you are established in life. Once you are in college you will get offers.

Get a checking account and eventually the bank will apporve you for a credit card. Then you can get your credit with the bank. I had no credit history but needed to build my credit so I went to my bank and they said I was approved for a credit card

You can't start with a department store credit card. They tend to be harder to get for bad credit and lack of.

Check out:

http://www.orchardbank.com - This is by HSBC bank.

You should be able to get that.

Also:

http://www.capitalone.com

They provide cards to first time credit folks. You might only get a $500 limit but you gotta start somewhere.

If all else fails go to....

http://www.creditcards.com

There you can research the different types of cards and even sort by credit score, or lack of credit to find the right card.

Contact Capital One bank, they offer a secured credit card. You put money in a savings account with them and they give you a credit card. Careful you do not go over-limit as that counts against your score and they charge you money for that.
