I recently was dating someone but we recently ended it because she hasn't gotten over her previous relationship, so the options for me is either be a friend or cut the whole thing off. The good thing is that we only dated for 2 months and it didn't get too deep but we did get along pretty well and we also have a ton of stuff in common. What do you all think?

Generally, as long as there's nothing upsetting with a breakup, friendship may exist.

As an example, I have a friend who is now married, a girl I once dated for 3 months. Fortunately, it didn't get incredibly serious, and it ended with me leaving for the military, and I chose to let her go her own way.
On the other hand, I've had 2 relationships, the first lasting 6 months, which ended with a realization that she had gone home with another guy on a night I had taken her to a club. The second lasted 2 years. While I was still in military service, serving in Korea, she decided to find something convenient...and cheated on me. For awhile, I tried to be understanding, being a full year apart, but that fell through. I discovered through a journal she had left open that she had been with others before that situation. Obviously the trust was gone, and a friendship without trust is dead.

Of the women I've dated longer than a month, only 1 remains a friend. Any others were loss of interest and nothing more.

People generally don't dump platonic friends and cut them off cold turkey. So, why do it to someone you've not only befriended but loved/cared for on a deeper level and been intimately involved with? I truly don't understand that concept unless the other party behaved badly or disrespectfully. Have fun together, enjoy life.

I think that if you wish her the best, with someone else, and aren't waiting for the breakup, you can have a very good friendship. But if you have any serious thoughts of getting back with her, then it isn't really a friendship you want, and she will feel betrayed by this friendship.

Sure why not, if things did not end in bad terms being friends is a good thing.

yes i would. me and my ex are friends.
i think you should rather be friends with her then cut the whole thing off. 'cause you never know, somewhere in the long run you might want to be with her again and she might want the same.

good luck = )
