I simply cannot wait any longer to hear back from this job. I am in a financial crisis and need to know whether or not I got the job. How can I politely ask if I'm hired in business talk?

I haven't submitted any application though, they only have my resume.

Most companies make up their minds on hiring someone within a few days of the interview. The longer time its been since your interview, the less of a chance you have to get the job. Companies dont do a good job of sending out rejection letters. Make a call to the person who interviewed you and ask about the status of the interview process. Tell them that you are still very interested in the position and ask if they have made a decision yet. This should get you an answer even if it isnt the one you are hoping for. Meanwhile, you need to continue to job hunt until you get a firm job offer. Remember many people interview for open positions so you shouldnt put your job search on hold just because you got an interview.

Don't ask that question. Say something like...I had an interview a week ago and i was wondering about the progress of my application with your company. Meanwhile if it's been a week chances are they're not going to hire you so you should start looking elsewhere.

Legally, you can't be hired without filling out an application. So, if they haven't moved forward in the hiring process and asked you to come in, I don't think you got the job.
