I can't seem to make chocolate chips cookies. I follow recipes exactly but no matter what I do, they always resemble flat pancakes and I can never get them off the cookie sheet without tearing them apart. Any tips?

Try making cake cookies....they are real simple and delicious!

18 oz. pkg. cake mix (any flavor)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients at low speed until dry ingredients are moistened and dough is thoroughly mixed. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls 2" apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 9-12 minutes. Cool two minutes on cookie sheets, then remove to wire racks to cool

If you want chocolate chip.........use yellow or white cake mix and add chocolate chips!
I have found these cookies are wonderful, easy and yummy.

I have that problem also. My chocolate chip cookies turned out flat all the time. Now I add a few extra tablespoons (3-4) of flour and that seems to help.

PARCHMENT PAPER. Buy a roll in the foils and plastic wrap section of a grocery store or near the baking supplies.

Tear it off like aluminum foil and trim with a scissors to fit your trays. NO cookie will stick to it, even if you leave it on the tray after baking until it's stone cold. Also, cookies tend to hold their shape better because there's no extra oil beneath them helping them spread.

It sounds like you really, really would love using parchment paper!

You are either adding too much butter or not enough flour. My guess is...not enough flour. Add another 1/2 cup or so and see how that works. Make sure your butter is at room temperature but not too soft. Your dough should be soft but not too sticky ...it should form a mound on your cookie sheet. Good luck

This happened to me yrs ago, and I realized I hadn't put in the baking soda.

Also, never put dough on a hot cookie sheet. Always let it cool between batches.

~ Line baking sheet w/ parchment paper.
~ Chill dough 1-2 hours before dropping cookie dough onto parchment.
~ use real butter or real shortening; no liquid oil and no tub or stick margarine that contains water
~ make sure your baking powder/soda is fresh. Check date underneath can/box. If expired, toss it and buy a new one. Your cookies will not rise w/o fresh leavening.

Brown sugar, not white, and baking powder(fresh) make cookies fluffy and chewey...also, use a butter flavor cooking spray on your cookie sheet.

I usually spray my pans about 2-3 times in a back and forth move. Extra, real butter will add richness and chewiness also.

Don't grease the cookie sheet and let them cool completely before removing.

wait till they cool completely before removing, and u can use parchment paper if you like

Sometimes it can be flat because your baking soda or powder is too old, even if its not expired.

I love these. try this recipie. i have yet to mess it up, lol.
