NIKON - Why ?
Apart from brilliant sharp lenses and Pro feel,
Nikon has a great D-Mount so you can use virually any lense on any camera. Not all but about 90% So if you have a camera you purchased that was made in 2007, you can use a lense that was made 20 years ago and Vice Versa. I have a set of lenses - all manual which i use on a F90x on a manual setting. Of course the Auto functions arent available, but then who needs them. If you want a camera that is truly unbeleivable - look no further than Leica - it is expensive though.

here is the thing, nikons digital sensors are sub par. I can say this with confidence because during the filming of the corpse bride, Tim Burton who on his acclaimed film nightmare before christmas used a nikon film camera, switched mid production to the canon 1ds Mark III and had a special fitting made so that he could use all of his old nikon optics (probably several hundreds of thousands of dollars worth) on his new canon body. why did he make the switch, it was because as they were reviewing the stills they noticed that they would get a Very inconsistent noise pattern in the in every few frames throwing off the consistency and quality of the work( also because at the time canon had the only full frame sensor for dSLR)

This is like asking which is better, Ford or Chevy. Do you want a real world answer or peoples opinions of what they like?

As stated, both companies make great cameras as well as do Sony, Pentax and Olympus. It's more if the person taking the pictures has the skill to get the image they want. Just about any SLR/DSLR can be used to make a great image, if the photographer is capable.

Nikon. I had 2 Canons (350d, 400d), now i'm with a nikon. Better design, better feeling.

Note that NASA bought ~100 Nikon cameras for space pictures. ;)

It doesn't matter which -- they're both good systems, and a good photographer can make excellent pictures with either system.
