No scolding here, my brother.
There are so many denominations because there are so many different people with so many different perspectives and ideas about God.
Of course, I believe God wants us to be unified under His Church, but sin is separation, and everywhere there is separateness there is sin. One day our sins will melt away and we'll be united again in Jesus.

We have so many denominations because people interpret the Bible differently and each have their own opinions about the best way to worship. This doesn't mean that their not all Christians, though, because Christianity is known as more of a relationship than a religion. We each have a personal relationship with Jesus, it's not regulated and regimented by a church. Our relationship with Jesus is unique- that's what leads to denomination spilts.
Not all Christians watch violent movies or television shows. There are some movies and shows that I refuse to watch because of their content. That's a big generalization.
I agree with your point that all Christians should be more united in the body of Christ.
Edit: What to call someone who supports Jeus but doesn't live the life? A hypocrite.

I say I am a Christian, simply, because I am. I am a Christian because I have Christ, I have been born again. The Bible, and the Holy Spirit in me is my best guide. Yes, I have sat under the teachings of many a pastor, but each and every one us is "to search the scriptures, to see if it is so". Never to blindly follow what someone tell us, in their claims of being a "holy man" or a prophet or a priest. They have no more special powers or ability to read the Bible than we do. To place your trust in one's denomination affiliation is what far too many do. "I'm a Catholic or I'm a Lutheran or Baptist". It's not your denomination that saves you. It's Christ himself. I do attend and am a member now at an Evangelical Free Church, because they do line up with my opinions the closest and we have a great bunch and we have been blessed with good pastors we've given the responsibility to. For in the E Free denomination- we, the church pick our pastor, no one "assigns" him to us. Remember, the "church" is us, not the organization which has the power and the money.. and "holy men".

I have no intention in scolding you but Christians have never seen things the same way. You can read in Galatians of Paul's dispute with Peter. Under the patronage of a roman emperor the church did agree on a creed but I am not sure how widely that is acknowledged today.
The basic reason is that God made us as individuals and we find it difficult to be humble enough to admit that we may not always be right about him/her. The basic issue is not the bible. It is about authority. Who has it? It becomes a power game and the arguments such as to has the right to interpret the bible is one big issue but there are others about matters such as liturgy.
It you have decided in advance that no one can give you a convincing answer then perhaps you have the same issue.

There were denominations starting while the Bible was still being written. True Christians are not as divided as you think. Many denominations such as Catholics are not true Christians because they do not stay with the Bible. But if you were a true Christian you would know other Christians almost immediately because of the Spirit that is within them. If you don't have that Spirit then you can't begin to tell, and they all look alike to you. Outsiders really don't have the right or the ability to judge those in the true church of Jesus Christ.

The reason there are different denominations within Christianity is because the Bible allows for us to have differences of opinions. Within Christianity there are very few essential doctrines that define what it means to be a Christian. These essential doctrines are,
Jesus is both God and man (John 1:1,14; 8:24; Col. 2:9; 1 John 4:1-4).
Jesus rose from the dead physically (John 2:19-21; 1 Cor. 15:14).
Salvation is by grace through faith (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9; Gal. 3:1-2; 5:1-4).
The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (1 Cor. 15:1-4; Gal. 1:8-9).
There is only one God (Exodus 20:3; Isaiah 43:10; 44:6,8)
God exists as a Trinity of persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (See Trinity)
Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary (nature of incarnation)
As long as a church believes in these essential doctrines, then it is Christian. However, there are many things in the scriptures that have been interpreted in different ways. For example, what day of the week should be worship on, Saturday or Sunday? Should we baptize by sprinkling or baptize by immersion? Do we take communion every Sunday, once a month, or once a year? The answers to these questions do not affect whether or not someone is a Christian. It is in these issues, and others like them, that denominations are formed. It does not mean that one denomination contradicts another. It means that though they agree in the essentials, they differ in some nonessentials. This is permitted in Scripture:
"Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. 2 One man has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3 Let not him who eats regard with contempt him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. 4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind," (Rom. 14:1-5).
Sadly, there is another reason for denominational differences and that is the failure of Christians to live according to the will of God. The truth is that we are all sinners and we do not see things eye to eye. It is an unfortunate truth that denominational differences are due to our shortsightedness and lack of love. But, the good thing is that God loves us so much that He puts up with our failures. There waits for us, in spite of our differences, a great reward in heaven. Neither salvation nor damnation is dependent upon our differences. Our salvation is based on our relationship with Christ.

They are divided because they no longer believe or follow the bible. The bible says baptism is essential I usually prove it by posting many, many verses but this one verse by Jesus will prove that for this post Mark 16:16 he that believes and is baptized will be saved he that believes not will be damned.
Paul said in Galatians 1:8,9 that anyone who preaches another gospel other than they preached let him be cursed.
Ephesians 4:4,5,6 states there is only one faith, one church one baptism.
Jesus said that the way to heaven is narrow an the road straight but the way to hell is wide and broad.
But the Christians today claim their many divided churches s that narrow straight one path even though there are many churches and many baptisms.

That's why there is so many different religions because you said Mary came back, which is not in the bible and would only make her like Jesus. They would worship her and not Jesus. Which I know one religion that does that.

Without denominational divide…we would be subject to a ONE church thinking…what denomination would you say we should follow? Who is right…who is wrong? God gave us brains to think for ourselves…the fact that we have many denominations indicates people do think for themselves.
No Church doctrine has it right. I would rather have the freedom to choose one my belief is nearest to than be forced to follow one that I don’t believe in.
EDIT: For the record..I'm non-denominational...but for those who choose a denomination...it's what they want.
