I love to bake and cook so I hope this list at least gives you an outline on what to by:
Cooking And Pantry Items
rice (Basmati Rice is my favorite type of rice)
olive oil
vegetable oil
seasoned bread crumbs
meat tenderizer
iodized salt
pepper
cumin
old bay seasoning (for seafood, crabs etc)
curry powder
oregano
whole bay leaves
crushed red pepper
poultry seasoning
worcestershire sauce
soy sauce
non stick butter cooking spray (like PAM)
corn starch (thickening agent like for making gravy)
vinegar (white, apple cider or balsamic (great for salad dressings)
honey (good on anything, great to have on hand)
hot sauce
cayenne pepper
barbecue sauce (you should try the Jack Daniels BBQ sauce)
dry pancake mix (like Aunt Jemima- the kind that you only need to add water and mix, also if you make the pancake batter you can use it as a ready made batter and dip shrimp in it and deep fry it, it makes a really good slightly sweet batter)
pancake syrup
Baking:
vanilla extract
baking powder
baking soda
allspice
cinnamon
nutmeg
ground ginger
confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)
light and or dark brown sugar
Happy Cooking!!!!!
Try Allrecipes.com for great recipes. Allrecipes.com also has and ingredient search where you can put in the ingredients that you have on hand and it will pull all the recipes with those ingredients in them)
There is a show on the Style Network called "Pantry Raid" where the Chef comes to your house and makes up great recipes from items in your pantry, so there's no need to go shopping. I have tried several recipes from the website and they were easy and delicious

I guess it would depend on what type of food your cook most...........stock up on those ingredients needed, and then get staples like the ones you mentioned, maybe get a spice rack they have a good choice. pastas, tomato sauce, keep your pantry stocked with non perishables, then buy some stuff to freeze like meats etc. then think about what you might want to cook for the week and buy the fresh items, like cheese, milk, breads,veggies....................
