I think that most people would find that if they dug deeply into the folds of the belly button they would find a cheesy smell even if they shower or bath daily.
I worked in a hospital where patients had a daily bath, with particular attention being paid to difficult corners, and they could still smell cheesy.

Don't listen to all the people being cruel. It has happened to everyone and they just aren't admitting it. If you will put alcohol on a q-tip and rub it around the inside of your belly button after every bath or shower it will eliminate all odor. Hope this helps.

The belly button is an ideal place for bacteria to grow, it is warm, slightly damp and dark.
The smell comes from the dead bacteria that have collected in the deep parts of the belly button.
You can use antiseptic cream to clear out this bacteria however it will in a short time come back again.

I have found this to be the situation and don't have an answer other then it's very hard to completely dry if you have a deep one. I've used Antibacterial soaps, body washes, Q tips, and tried using blower drier , to no success. If you find out I'd really like to know also. Good Luck! You must have a real long nose to be able to smell it. Try washing it out with distilled water. Don't put scent in there!
