My brother is always leaving the computer on for hours and hours after using them, and he never helps to pay the electricity bills,my dad pays alone, the thing is,i'm always stuck in 2 options,to either turn off the computer which will help my dad but have my bro to hate me for doing that(which i think he already did,i can't stand him),he's selfish and ignorant, and because of that the bills are always over the limit,i pity my dad, always having to pay the bills alone,i can't help him..but my brother is so selfish,he's always doing that...this can't go on!comments?

Its no use talking to him,its like talking to a wall, and furthermore,my family always complains about bills,i mean,we already reduce other electricity but most is needed unlike the computer which is the one with the most bills..i just can't stand there and do nothing..

I had to deal with the same thing. Plus it really bugged me when people would leave the computer on. I just got to where I would turn it off whenever I came across the computer when it was on. People who lived here were here because they couldn't afford their own place at the time. But they did other things besides just the computer. After I went to bed they would come upstairs and turn up the furnace. The heating bill went through the roof. They would cook meals only for them and leave the dishes, they would eat the food that I bought and not replace it, their dogs would poop all over the floor and they wouldn't clean it up, they wouldn't pay for the things their dogs destroyed, When they moved out....FINALLY!!! they didn't leave a forwarding address to the post office so their mail was still coming here. They threatened to make me pay their bills if I didn't start forwarding their mail for them. I told them to try, which they couldn't do, by the way.
Despite all the generosity they were shown, they still talk about living here like it was the worst thing that happened to them. After all the money that they owe from living here, they refuse to pay it and they said they would never speak to me again. They said it like it was going to hurt my feelings or something. I'm glad they're out and I'm glad I never have to deal with them ever again.
It may be best to get your brother out and on his own so he can discover how hard it is to pay the bills...if he's old enough. You didn't mention how old you were. But if he's old enough to be out on his own he should be. Good luck.

Is your father is complaining of ur brother’s attitude?
If yes, then you should do what ever it takes, to comfort him especially that ur brother doesn’t share the bills. And do not worry about ur brother feelings, one day he will grow up and understand what u r doing.
If no, then you must not turn only the computer off but any other thing that might be turned on and no one is using it (TV, Cassette, Radio, lights,…)That way, u will not reduce your electricity bills only but also reduce the fuel consumption and the Air pollution as well.

1.when ever you find your brother leaves the computer on, boldly switch it off. if he is really affectionate to you, he has to digest it.selfish does not arise here.
2.your dad will be happy about you. it is what required!

I think you need to sit and talk about the subject together with your Dad.
