Yes, I'm quite the spell check freak myself. I am also a Grammar Nazi. I mean, it's fine when you're talking with friends and such, but having good grammar can really help get your thoughts across more clearly.
One of my biggest pet peeves is the issue with "your" and "you're". I cringe whenever I see it. It's not THAT hard to differentiate between the two. It's something people (are SUPPOSED to) learn early on in elementary school. The same applies for "there", "they're", and "their". To me, it just looks really bad. When this common mistake is made in an essay, written report, or whatever, it's like contaminating an entire water supply with one drop of urine... No matter how amazing the overall content might be, that one error could ruin the whole thing.
Also, I like how Yahoo! Answers is a pretty laid back environment and all, but people shouldn't forget that others do use it as a reference site. People search for questions and answers on here all the time, so I think people should take more time proof reading their posts.
For me, I think these pet peeves of mine have a lot to do with the fact that I had a really strict, yet really inspiring English teacher back in my senior year of high school. My papers aren't flawless, but I don't have to revise as much as other students.

I can completely relate to what you are saying. I'm a uni student, and all of my friends ask me to spell and grammar check their work for them all the time. There have been instances when they have already had it proof read by 3 or 4 other people, and even then there are still obvious mistakes.
I seem to see spelling errors everywhere, and just think to myself, can it really be that hard?
As with the 'grammar nazi' above, I am appalled at the way that 'you're' and 'your' are consisently interchanged, seemingly at a whim. I find that it is the same with 'they're', 'there' and 'their' in a lot of instances . I mean, come on people, I learnt the differences between these words when I was 6 or 7 years old. It's not that hard!

I'm the same. Spelling mistakes jump out me wherever I am. I've pointed out display errors in bookshops, museums, posters etc etc. Apostrophes drive me up the wall as well.
Take courage. You are not alone!

it does drive me crazy that I look at the same text every day and don't see the forgotten letter in a word. It's a brain game so spell check is great.

I can't understand it. Y!A. has spell check! It makes it difficult for me to take a question, or even a user seriously--when their posts are littered with errors.
