I completely understand that you can believe God creates everything, but dinosaurs aren't in the bible. My friend is a devout Christian and I want to talk to her about it but do not want to offend her in any way. My question is also not intended to insult any religion or anyone's beliefs.

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned dinosaurs specifically, more the story of evolution generally.

The most difficult thing is that she has not always expressed her religious views, so it sometimes feels like I am speaking to a new friend rather than someone I have known for a long time. I am used to having discussions with people and they accept we sometimes have different opinions, but she will not accept that there could be alternatives.

Thank you Rebecca for your answer. I do not want to change her views in any way. I appreciate how much her religion means to her. Sometimes she says things that throw me a little but I feel I can answer honestly. I don't think we would argue, I just want to be better prepared.

It all depends on whether or not you want to try and convince your friend that her beliefs are wrong; her opinions and beliefs are obviously very important to her. Her faith will not just be about black and white text in the bible either, she's likely to have quite a friendship with the God she believes in; if she believes in Creation as it is in the bible then let her do so. You do have a very valid queries though about the 'dinosaurs'! The Creation V's Evolution question has been pondered by so many! I don't really think that anyone has ever found a definite answer that everyone can agree on, but it's an interesting topic. Have a good chat with your friend about it; judging by how you've tried so hard (and have succeeded) in posing your question so sensitively, I can't imagine that you'd be the type of person to upset or offend your friend. As you respect your friends beliefs, she must also respect yours. Your discussion doesn't have to turn into an argument and you may have some of your questions answered!

Evolution is always condemned by religious people who will not contradict what is in the Bible. You could ask her views on the Dinosaurs period to see what sort of reaction she may show by her answer to your question. She may shock you and agree but I doubt it to say the least.

If she says it wasn't possible then you could lead her up the garden path and say maybe that these fossils are part of the Devils plan.

I was reading an article about the finding of dinosaur bones being brought up by the trawl fishing nets near England in the 18th century and a devote christian clergy person replied they are the result of Noah's flood. So you will be able to get out of the difficult situation if you like.

Ah two points anyway and some food for thought well maybe.

the Bible account in the first chapter of Genesis simply states the general order of creation. It allows for possibly thousands of millions of years for the formation of the earth and many millenniums in six creative eras, or “days,” to prepare the earth for human habitation.

Some dinosaurs (and pterosaurs) may indeed have been created in the fifth era listed in Genesis, when the Bible says that God made “flying creatures” and “great sea monsters.” Perhaps other types of dinosaurs were created in the sixth epoch. The vast array of dinosaurs with their huge appetites would have been appropriate considering the abundant vegetation that evidently existed in their time.—Genesis 1:20-24.

When the dinosaurs had fulfilled their purpose, God ended their life. But the Bible is silent on how he did that or when. We can be sure that dinosaurs were created by Jehovah for a purpose, even if we do not fully understand that purpose at this time. They were no mistake, no product of evolution. That they suddenly appear in the fossil record unconnected to any fossil ancestors, and also disappear without leaving connecting fossil links, is evidence against the view that such animals gradually evolved over millions of years of time. Thus, the fossil record does not support the evolution theory. Instead, it harmonizes with the Bible’s view of creative acts of God.

Why do you think that dinosaurs aren't in the bible. If you actually read the account of Creation in Gen. You will see that Mankind was the very LAST of God's creation. the animals came long before man was. The word of God also mentions giants in the land as well. But as to your question, any Christian who claims to accept evolution is in fact calling God a liar. If I were your friend, I would not be insulted by your question, but I would be much more interested in why you accept something (evolution) for which there is not a shred of proof for.

Of course, real Christians don't pick and choose which bits of the Bible appeal to their particular lifestyle and which to throw out, only the compromising pretenders do this.
The word dinosaur was only invented in the 1800s, so how could we find it in the bible? Prior to that they were known and recorded in most cultures as dragons. The book of Job in the Bible gives a good description of a dinosaur(land and sea) if ya bother to look.
And recent discoveries at sites around the world have uncovered fossils with conecting tissue and blood cells. How could they be 65 million years old??

Well chinese people arent in the bible either, but they obviously exist!

Geology, Archaeology, Science and History prove evolution, without doubt.

The adam and eve story is a myth, people forget that the early Hebrews picked up many stories from those they lived amongst.

They originally lived in Mesopotamia, and were influenced by the Sumerians, Assyrians etc.

So, no, a true christian should not believe in the bible LITERALLY, the bible isnt supposed to be looked at that way either.

Dinosaurs were not relevant to the people 3,000 years ago. Dinosaurs aren't even relevant to religion now! Animals were on this planet way before the first human being, so why shouldn't there be dinosaurs? About 70% of all animals ever to have lived on this planet have gone extinct. Why doesn't the bible list them all? It isn't a scientific manual, people weren't to understand the workings of nature through this book.

You are correct the dinosaurs are not really mentioned in the bible. Gods standards were given by word of mouth, Not until Moses began to write Gods laws down.

If you go to the flood in Noah's day, we know animals were brought into the ark. It also does not say for example ever type of horse , zebra, pinto, or whatever was in the ark. It does say every KIND. So with the knowledge of DNA we see we can get many types of horses from one horse. This may agree with that bible verse. To each of its kind. As God allowed Adam and Eve, there have become many types of human races. Like wise with one horse, God can allow the different DNA types of horses to be born out of the first pair, because a horse is a horse is a horse.

Also, The flood was world wide, however that happened, we know that it does take pressure, weight, and something sudden to have allowed the bones of Dino's and plants to turn into oil. Water is very heavy and that is very important fact to prove the Dino's died by the flood. Also to not that water can cause mountains to rise and valley's to sink. The earth at that time may not have had so high of mountains in elevation.. Not until the flood of Noah did the earth change in a drastic and violent way.

So talk to your friend. If she's a "devout" Christian she should want to talk to you about it, but don't expect her to have any answers about dinosaurs and the Bible.
I belive in Adam and Eve and I also believe species 'evolve' by adapting to change. What I cannot accept is that humans were once sea creatures that 'evolved' into people that started walking and talking.

human beings exchange their epidermis colorings in accordance to climate situations. on an analogous time too God, by time after Adam & Eve, created the countless races on earth, with a purpose, i.e. to worship Him and no different. for this reason you have the countless races which you point out. Evolution occurred upon God's will, as he's the author & Sustainer of all residing issues on earth.
