Why not give to a local charitable organization instead?

Disclaimer: I'm a Christian.

The issue of tithing is a heart issue, not a money issue. God doesn't need your money. He already owns it all. (Psalm 24:1 - The earth is the Lord's and everything in it).

What God WANTS is your heart. Tithing is simply a way to show that God is a priority in your life. Matthew 6:21 says "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

I'll be honest. I don't tithe at this point in my life. Am I a hypocrite? Yes. I would like to trust God enough to tithe. God says in Malachi 3:10: Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."

If there are no other churches to go to, how do you worship? I'd find another church somewhere.

Tithing is not required in New Testament theology. None of the works of the law of the old covenant carry over into the new. Anyone or any church that demands people tithe to them is perpetrating a deception.

A tithe was the increase of produce and livestock, and never wages. For them to demand people tithe of wages is a perversion of scripture.

First, i would be more concerned about your spiritual health. We are told to not forsake our gathering together to build up one another. I can not imagine not having my church family to call upon in times of need, or when life seems just too much to handle. Do you really live in a place where there are no houses of God? I'm so sorry for you if you do. I guess on the tithes issue, you apparently know that God has laid this on your heart, otherwise you would have dismissed the notion already. I would suggest that you pray for God to reveal to you who HE wants you to pay the tithes to. Then see what answer he sends.

I do not tithe. Main reason is Jesus did away with religious practices like sacerificing animals, tithe and so on. but, there is a principle that a Christian should follow. Because God is a happy God, when we give or use our material things, weather it be money or our time, our vehicle, When we use our things for God that makes him happy.

So the principle of tithing back in the days of the old law had a purpose to maintain, the temple as well as support for the poor. The example of the old woman giving a couple of coins was more valuable than the rich men putting a 10th of their surplus, should incline that it is not the monitory 10th you should give, but give your best to God and his purpose. See, Jesus corrected the mindset of that law, yes a tenth a person was to give, but more importantly, you give your best because God also gave his best for everyone.

Tithing is not required according to The New and Better Law that Jesus gave Christians. You should make yourself available to help others and use your material things for Gods work. God loves a cheerful giver.

I'm not giving my money to the church. For the first time in 2000 years the Christian church has the political, financial, and economic ability to do a lot of good in the world. Instead, they spend their monies on large buildings and vacations, secretly disguised as religious ventures.

There are not many churches left open in the UK. Most people have grown out of a belief in the sky fairy.

I despise organized religion. My church is my garden. I am much closer to God in nature than in some stuffy building.
