No, I am not offended. Actually, I think it is nice for her to do so instead of coming up with names like George, William or whatever. I´ve heard about this in the news, and it seems to be another case of the media finding some dumb-sounding-happening in an Islamic land, and then blowing it out of proportion to make it seem like all Muslims or Muslim countries would react like this. Or said otherwise, "Muslim-bashing".
I haven´t read the whole article, but I´m sure the teacher meant well. Also, I´m sure the pupils´ parents didn´t mind much either. Maybe they took offence at calling an "animal" that name? Can´t say, but if so, arresting her is completey inappropriate. This whole action doesn´t fit within the expected actions of a Muslim community, so it is wrong to make it seem to represent us that way. But what else is new?
EDIT: (a few hours later...) -- just read that the lady has been pardoned - here is the link for the article, and it explains that most of the students in the class voted for the name. A few "radicals" (or whatever one may call them) apparantly made the problems, but most people supported her. Glad to read that she is fine and has still enjoyed her time in Sudan!

As a Muslim, I am ashamed at Muslims who have escalated this issue to the level they have. A pathetic shame on Muslims. It's an embarrassment for the whole Ummah (nation) that Muslims are ready to MURDER a teacher for naming a teddy bear after one of the children in her class. Was her intention to name it after the Holy Prophet (s)?? NO!! To offend Islam? NO!! To make a political statement of any kind what-so-ever? NO!! It was an innocent toy and the children in the class chose the name, not her.
I think the Muslims are the cause of their own downfall.
The Holy Prophet (s) once said (and I'm paraphrasing): I do not fear the times when the Muslims will be in small numbers, I fear the times when they will be in great, huge numbers as their weight will be like that of a feather. This means that there will be a time when the words, actions and deeds of Muslims will be utterly useless and worthless... the Prophet (s) knew it and prophesied it and now that time has come.

i am a convert to islam. i dont take any offense to it. do you know how many muslim children have named dolls and stuffed animals after that name. even nonmuslims have the name mohammed. the child can simply name it after a parent or family member not even thinking about the prophet . because as an educated muslim we know nothing can compare to mohammed. come on what were they thinking , it is a child and it is a toy. the child was not saying this is the prophet of God . was he>? . the teacher probably thought as we do , it is just a name it is not saying the bear it the prophet like the cartoons did months ago. people are extreme thats all. they have to find something to pick about.

I don't see any offense in that.
Maybe she named the teddy bear Mohammed as a sign to offend Muslims, or maybe she didn't. We don't know the full facts.
If I were the head master of that school, I wouldn't charge her with anything.
If there was any wrong doings, I would alert the teacher since people might be offended by an innocent move due to culturaly differences.

Don't you think an old lady should abide by the laws of the land?
This poor Islamic country was feeding her & family and she is calling names to our Prophet! No Muslim can tolerate blasphemy. Let the law work. She will be released soon.
Media is uncecessarily projecting this issue as if it was a Big Bang!

Walaykumsalaam. i circulate to my husband for solutions as he's a born Muslim. Or i circulate to my Qur'an and ask him questions approximately stuff I study that i don't understand. Like the way it is not adultery for a guy to sleep together with his female slaves and nonetheless be married.

i take no offense to this whatsoever. It was a laughable issue, and I thought the reaction was the most absurd news I've heard in a long time.
I think they have alot more to worry about then this **** i.e (DARFUR).
